During our Mae Hong Son Loop journey, one of our most memorable stops was at Khunyuam Resort. Located in the tranquil village of Ban Tor Phae, just outside Khun Yuam town, the resort offers a peaceful retreat amidst lush valleys and rice fields. We loved this stop as it was so peaceful and beautiful around us! When you are planning to do the Mae Hong Son Loop in Thailand, you really must stop at this small resort located near the town of Khun Yuam.

Khun Yuam Resort is ideally situated between Mae Sariang and Mae Hong Son city, approximately 225 km from Chiang Mai. The resort is about 5-6 km west of Khun Yuam town, providing easy access to local attractions such as Wat To Phae and the Thailand-Japan Friendship Memorial Hall. Its hillside setting offers panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and rice fields, creating a tranquil atmosphere for guests.​

The hospitality at Khunyuam Resort is nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we arrived, we were met with genuine smiles and helpful service. Khun Jeab, the owner, is known for her warm personality and attentiveness, making every guest feel at home. Whether it was helping us to our room or sharing tips about the area, the entire team went out of their way to ensure we had everything we needed.

Atmosphere & Design

Khunyuam Resort is designed to blend naturally with its mountain surroundings. The low-rise buildings are nestled in a quiet valley, surrounded by green fields and forested hills. The ambiance is peaceful and rustic, with a strong sense of space and privacy between the rooms. From the balconies, you can enjoy spectacular sunrises and the gentle sounds of rural life—truly a place to unwind and reconnect with nature.

Room types at Khunyuam Resort

​Khunyuam Resort offers a variety of accommodations to suit different preferences. Guests can choose from Budget Double Rooms with a king bed, Budget Twin Rooms with two single beds, and Luxury Triple Rooms featuring one king and one single bed. The Luxury Triple Rooms are available on both the first and second floors, with the upper-level rooms providing enhanced panoramic views. Each room is equipped with air conditioning, a refrigerator, a private bathroom, and a balcony to enjoy the surrounding natural beauty. ​

Our room, the Luxury Tripple Room

We stayed in the Luxury Tripple Room, a spacious room on the first floor of a two story buildig. It has a large balcony offering panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. The room was well-equipped and thanks to the refrigerator, we could stash our 7-Eleven snacks and drinks for the evening. A unique feature was the cozy alcove with a sofa bed, perfect for relaxing during brief rain showers. Thanks to the mosquito net, we fell asleep without air conditioning, with the sounds of nature in the background while our balcony doors were wide open. The peaceful valley setting, surrounded by mountains, made Khunyuam Resort a highly recommended place to stay.

Complimentary breakfast

As we had to leave early for our next stop at the Mae Hong Son Loop, we did some research about the breakfast. Beside breakfast. the resort’s on-site restaurant also offers a variety of Asian dishes, catering to different culinary preferences. ​

• For coffee lovers, visit Coffee Jack in Khun Yuam town — great coffee and even better service.
• Bring a light jacket or sweater — early mornings and evenings can be cool due to the resort’s mountain location.
