Kamala Beach: Phuket’s beach that balances between relaxation and entertainment
Kamala Beach, located between Surin Beach and Patong on Phuket’s west coast, offers the perfect balance of tranquility and activity. Less crowded than Patong but more vibrant than the ultra-quiet beaches, Kamala is ideal for travelers who want a relaxing beach escape without sacrificing convenience or charm. Popular among families, couples, and solo travelers, Kamala is known for its casual vibe, beach bars, and beautiful shoreline.
A visit to Surin in Phuket isn’t just about sunbathing and swimming. Just north of Surin Beach lies the exclusive Pansea Beach, home to two world-class resorts, while to the south you’ll find Laem Sing Beach, a hidden cove accessible via a short hike or boat ride. Combine your beach day with snorkeling, dining, or exploring nearby attractions—Surin Beach is an ideal base for discovering this part of Phuket.

What makes Kamala Beach so special?
Kamala is beloved for its friendly atmosphere, golden sand, and slower pace of life. Exploring the beach of Kamala
Kamala Beach stretches for about 2.5 kilometers, with soft golden sand and plenty of room to relax. Palm trees and Australian pines line the beach, providing natural shade. The southern section, near Kamala Temple and the Tsunami Memorial Park, tends to be quieter but less suitable for swimming due to river inlets.
In the center and north, you’ll find sun loungers and umbrellas for rent, with beachside vendors and casual eateries nearby. This area is great for families and sunseekers. The beach is clean and ideal for a walk—especially during sunrise or sunset

The sea at Kamala Beach
The best time to swim in Kamala is from November to April, when the sea is calm and clear. During this period, the beach is safe for families, although the slope into the water can be steep. Snorkeling is possible near the rocky ends of the beach but is modest compared to other Thai islands.

In low season (May to October), the sea becomes rougher. It’s popular with surfers then, but families should be extra cautious. Pay attention to the red flags and lifeguard warnings before entering the water
