After our stay at a hotel in Patong, a Bolt taxi picked us up and dropped us at Wyndham Grand Phuket Kalim Bay, where we stepped into the bright lower reception area. We waited briefly before a shuttle carried us up along the narrow paths to the villa-guest reception hall.

Check-in was surprisingly quick and entirely digital, handled on a tablet. That is how the resort lives up to its sustainability promise.

Our villa was even more impressive than we had expected: the moment we walked in, our eyes went straight to a panoramic view over the sea that was simply breathtaking. From that moment on we were certain: this is somewhere you want to come back to.

Architecture and Design

Since opening in December 2016, this resort has followed one guiding principle: the design follows what nature dictates, not the other way around.

The steep cliff was not an obstacle but rather the inspiration for architect Rachapuk Sungkhaphunt, who designed seven terraces that fit effortlessly into the landscape. Our Top Floor Pool Villa Ocean View

In March 2026 we stayed in the 120 m² Top Floor Pool Villa Ocean View at Wyndham Grand Phuket Kalim Bay — without a doubt one of the best places we have stayed on Phuket to date. Of all the accommodations we explored on the island (ten in total!), this ocean-view villa earns a place in our top three.

On arrival the resort welcomed us during check-in with a honey lemon mint tea, exactly what you want after a travel day.

Inside the villa something special was waiting: elephant-shaped towels and countless rose petals arranged on the bed to spell out a personal message — “Welcome Riel & Ilonka”. It was an immediate signal that attention to detail matters here.

You could hardly wish for a better start.

Living and bedroom area

As we walked in, a coffee machine and well-stocked mini-bar greeted us on the left. On top sat extra water bottles plus alcoholic drinks, including a reasonably priced bottle of wine. A desk with a mirror gave us a comfortable space to work. In the evenings we happily used the electric mosquito-repellent system on our private terrace — effective and unobtrusive.

Opposite the mini-bar was another generous work surface. Handy: we could work side by side. A mid-height wall separated off the king-size bed. Bedside tables on both sides had power sockets above them. On one side there was also a panel for controlling the lighting, air conditioning and more. The air conditioning was quiet and neatly built into the ceiling.

To the right of the bed, sliding doors led into the large bathroom, which was also accessible from the living area. From the bed we looked out over the sea all the way to Patong Beach in the distance. Opposite the bed stood a low dresser with the television on the left, next to it a few steps up to the living area, where another large flat-screen was installed. They unfortunately share one remote, so sometimes both switched on at once — but who really watches TV with a view like this?

As soon as you walked into our living room your eyes fell on a hand-written board with a welcome greeting from Wyndham, written in white chocolate letters. We sank into the comfortable armchair in front of a lovely spread of snacks — cake, macarons, nuts and bonbons — neatly presented. What a warm welcome!

At the very back of the room, sliding doors gave access to our spacious terrace and directly to the outdoor pool, so the villa felt open and generous.

Bathroom

Throughout our stay in this lovely pool villa, Ilonka kept coming back to one thing: “We want a bathroom like this at home.” I laughed and replied: “But our living room is barely bigger than this whole bathroom.”

And indeed, this bathroom deserves admiration. There were sleek his-and-hers vanities and a large mirror. Opposite stood a spacious shower with rain head and massage jets, and the toilet was discreetly tucked away beside it. The highlight? A freestanding bathtub near the glass sliding doors to the pool, filled with rose petals and white flowers shaped into a large heart — pure indulgence, no words needed.

Terrace and Infinity Pool

The highlight of our villa: through wide sliding doors we stepped onto our private terrace, where a panoramic view took hold of us immediately. The infinity pool flowed seamlessly into an uninterrupted vista of the Andaman Sea, Patong Bay and the mountains behind it. Two comfortable loungers and a unicorn float — that was all we needed.

Waking up here every morning felt like a gift: peaceful, private and luxurious all at once. Ready for total privacy and comfort? This Wyndham pool villa is waiting for you.

Facilities

The Deck Swimming Pool

Start at the infinity pool of Building B. Although there were quite a few guests when we visited, the atmosphere stayed calm and laid-back. Loungers are widely spaced, offering both room and privacy. Parasols open precisely when you want shade without losing any of the view. From here you look out undisturbed over Patong Bay across the water.

Right next to the pool sits The Deck Poolside Bar: a relaxed bar with fresh drinks and light snacks within easy reach. It makes for an effortless day of swimming, sunbathing and unwinding.

Thabtim Swimming Pool

The second pool (the head pool)  sits near the fitness room and Zana Spa. Here the view is of green gardens rather than the sea. Because it is always calm here, this is the spot for an early-morning swim or a quiet read.

Gym

Want to keep moving while on holiday? The bright fitness room with its large windows invites you in for a workout. Several Life Fitness cardio machines stand ready, along with free weights and an all-in-one machine. That’s enough to stay in shape, but if you’re after serious strength training the selection is somewhat limited.

Zana Spa

Zana Spa is the showpiece of the resort. In 2024 the spa won the title of “Luxury Hotel Spa, South East Asia” at the World Luxury Spa Awards — recognition you feel the moment you walk in. With six treatment rooms, the spa offers a calm, relaxed atmosphere that starts before the first touch.

The menu combines traditional Thai massage with modern techniques. Pick, for instance, a deep Swedish massage, or the Nuad Pra Kob — a powerful treatment with warm herbal compresses, executed here with great skill.

A real signature is the Vichy Shower: six adjustable water jets that deliver a kind of rain-massage. You rarely find this treatment outside specialised wellness centres. Perfect for full surrender. Ilonka tried the Vichy Shower during our stay at the Renaissance Bangkok, when we visited Quan Spa.

Our Zana Spa Experience

After a short intake and a cup of kombucha, we opted for the 90-minute Balance Massage. The oils of lavender, rosewood and cedar made the experience extra special. Because we were together, we were given a private treatment room with its own jacuzzi, so the relaxation could carry on after the massage itself. Therapists Sarah and Earn sensed precisely what we needed. Their touch was skilled and tuned to our preferences, leaving the massage both invigorating and deeply calming.

We have had hundreds of massages on our many trips through Thailand, but this experience really stood out. The combination of professional technique, personal attention and the serene spa setting makes it a must for anyone staying at Wyndham Grand Phuket Kalim Bay. Give yourself this wellness moment — you walk out fresh and at ease.

Wyndham Grand Orchard

Above the villas you discover the surprising Wyndham Grand Orchard. Across 6,000 m², coconut palms, banana and papaya trees grow alongside herbs such as lemongrass and turmeric. All this fresh fruit and these herbs go straight into the kitchen of Latitude 98 and to Zana Spa.

Organic chickens lay fresh eggs every morning for breakfast. Since January 2026, the Stingless Bee project has helped to pollinate the orchard with stingless bees. These bees produce pot-honey, a rare delicacy that turns up at breakfast, in cocktails and in desserts.

The Orchard not only supports local agriculture; it also strengthens the bond with the Thai community around the resort. Kitchen scraps are composted and returned to the soil, keeping the garden healthy. In this way the Wyndham Grand Orchard sits at the heart of the resort’s circular system.

Sustainability

At Wyndham Grand Phuket Kalim Bay, sustainability is not a marketing gimmick but daily practice. From the organic Wyndham Grand Orchard to water-saving aerators that cut water use in half. In every suite the air conditioning automatically switches off after 15 minutes. Sensor lighting and heat pumps keep energy consumption low.

Shortly after our visit in March 2026, the resort took delivery of a fully electric shuttle bus that handles more than 9,000 transfers a month. Quieter, cleaner and more comfortable for guests.

The resort has been rewarded with several sustainability awards: the Wyndham Green Certificate Level 5 (2025), 5-star STAR certification (2025), Trusted Thailand recognition (2025) and the ARDA Sustainability Award (2026).

Food and Beverages

Lattitude 98

Latitude 98 is the culinary heart of Wyndham Grand Phuket. The restaurant sits above the villa lobby, just a five-minute walk from our pool villa. Guests can choose to eat indoors or outside on an open terrace with an unobstructed sea view — ideal for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Whether you start the day with a hearty breakfast or settle in for a relaxed dinner, the atmosphere, service and view make every meal a special occasion.

The breakfast buffet offers an impressive mix of fresh seasonal produce drawn from regional kitchens alongside familiar classics such as continental breads and pastries. There was also fresh tropical fruit, Thai favourites and surprising dishes you don’t quickly find elsewhere — plenty of Western options and a notable selection of Middle Eastern specialities that made the spread uniquely varied. In short: something for everyone, even if you like variety.

Wyndham Grand Phuket on Kalim Bay is one of our favourite spots from our 2026 visit to Phuket. The combination of comfort, romance, hospitality and — not to be forgotten — the food makes it hard to choose anywhere else around busy Patong.

Romantic Sunset Dinner

One day we skipped lunch, because our final evening was reserved for something special. On the terrace we enjoyed an intimate four-course menu beneath one of the most beautiful sunsets we saw during our month in Phuket. Rose petals were scattered across the table and the terrace floor — just that little extra touch to complete the setting. As the colours in the sky shifted, we quietly wondered: might this be the most romantic dinner of our entire trip?

The menu opened with fresh canapés, followed by a salad with scallops, then prawns in a crispy jacket. The main course was pasta with squid ink and clams, followed by salmon or beef. Dessert rounded off this special evening perfectly.

Floating Breakfast and Romantic Float

Our first morning began with a surprise: a floating breakfast was already waiting in our pool. A large heart formed the backdrop for coffee and tea, fresh juices, breads, jam, eggs, sausages and colourful fruit. Everything had been arranged especially so we could enjoy it at sunrise while Patong slowly came to life across the water. That is how you truly start the day relaxed.

On our last night at this wonderful resort, just before Ilonka’s birthday, I surprised her with an intimate evening by — and in — our pool. After a beautiful dinner at Latitude 98 we returned to our pool villa. There, that heart-shaped basket was once again ready, this time filled with tuxedo chocolate-covered strawberries, fresh cheeses with crackers and fruit. With sparkling wine on the side, we created an unforgettable memory together. Wyndham Grand Phuket Kalim Bay really is the place for evenings like this.

Infiniti Lobby Bar

Opposite the villa lobby, a staircase leads down to the Infiniti Lobby Bar. This half-covered bar sits on top of the cliff and offers an open view over the Andaman Sea. It is the place to enjoy sunset with a cocktail in hand. The mixologists here craft classic and surprising cocktails with real skill.

During our stay at Wyndham Grand Phuket Kalim Bay we took a relaxed cocktail class for two. Not a stiff lesson, but an easy session in which we ourselves stepped behind the bar.

Under Fon’s guidance we learned to make four cocktails. Fon explained everything calmly and gave us plenty of freedom, which kept the mood relaxed and fun.

I started with my favourite: the Negroni. The detail that mattered most? Cutting the orange peel just so, releasing only the best oils. Three more surprising cocktails followed: a fresh Long Island Iced Tea, a mango Daiquiri (best served frozen), and to close, the hotel’s signature cocktail “A Day at Wyndham” — tropical and fruity with passion fruit and crème de cassis.

What makes this class special? Here it is about feel, not slavishly sticking to recipes. A little extra in the glass is perfectly fine. Shaking, tasting, laughing and enjoying your own creations along the way — that kind of experience makes your stay just a bit better.

The Deck Poolside Bar

The Deck Poolside Bar gives guests a laid-back spot to catch up over drinks or simply drift off for a while. Here you sip cocktails with a view of the blue sea — genuinely ideal for hours of chill.

A few loungers offer comfort without putting you in the middle of the crowd. The playful styling makes you think instantly of sun, sea and beach. The menu delivers exactly what guests want during a day around the pool: fresh cocktails such as the “Long Wyndham”, a classic Piña Colada or a Whisky Sour, alongside light pizzas and small bites. Infused Water (with lemon) you simply tap yourself, free of charge.

Thabtim Café

Thabtim Café sits directly next to the Thabtim swimming  pool — ideal for those who want to relax without venturing far. Here you can order refreshing drinks, light snacks and tasty meals. Everything is brought quickly to your sunbed, so all you have to do is enjoy. Prefer the shade? The covered terrace is a nice place to sit quietly.

Saturday’s Stargazing Night + Earth Hour

On 28 March, Earth Hour 2026, we experienced a special edition of the Saturday Stargazing Night at the Wyndham Grand Orchard, a scenic organic orchard on a hill overlooking Kalim Bay. Among the fruit trees stand inviting seating areas, where we chose from a selection of cocktails, mocktails, beer, soft drinks and fresh juices. Food was served on a large platter, with Thai favourites such as spicy som tam, grilled chicken, spare ribs, prawns and salad, enough for two. Want more? The barbecue stood open for additional bites.

As dusk fell, a guitarist played atmospheric acoustic music. For this special Earth Hour edition, the resort invited guests to trade their room lights for starlight through their “A Key A Drink” initiative, hand in your room key between 8.30 and 9.30 pm, and receive a refreshing drink and a relaxing fifteen-minute shoulder massage in return. We didn’t pass up the chance.

Just as Earth Hour began, the lights across the water in Patong slowly went dark. From our quiet spot on the hill, with the sky clear enough to reveal a canopy of stars, it was striking to see only candlelight around us; screens off, the world gone quiet, and so much more of the tropical beauty suddenly visible. The combination of a stargazing night and Earth Hour in such a special setting is one you don’t easily come across. A small switch for us, but a meaningful collective step for the planet. If you’re in the area, do book this evening experience.

Our conclusion

There are resorts that impress, and there are resorts that stay with you forever. Wyndham Grand Phuket Kalim Bay belongs without question to the second group. After a month in Phuket, ten accommodations and dozens of restaurants, we know for certain that this resort belongs in our top three of the trip.

It is the sum total that makes this resort so strong. The lovely villa with its infinity pool overlooking the sea and Patong. Watching Patong slowly wake up every morning. The romantic four-course dinner with an unforgettable sunset. The cocktail class with Fon, where we ended up laughing — slightly tipsy — behind the bar with home-made cocktails in hand. And that one evening at the Wyndham Grand Orchard, the stars above us and nothing but candlelight around us for Earth Hour. Moments you don’t book — you live them.

Wyndham Grand Phuket Kalim Bay knows exactly what it is: a romantic resort that takes its promise seriously. The service is genuinely warm, the design pleasing, the sustainability tangible — from the lemongrass picked in its own garden into your curry, to the quiet electric shuttle that picks you up.
