The Famous Mud Crab Sculpture
A real eye-catcher along the promenade is the Mud Crab Sculpture, or Lan Pu Dam in Thai. This impressive monument, featuring one large black crab surrounded by three smaller ones, is more than just a photo opportunity. It symbolizes the abundance of Krabi’s coastal waters and the prosperity of the local fishing communities. Right next to it stands the Nok Awk monument, a lesser-known but meaningful statue representing a rare bird native to the Krabi region.
These two sculptures, set against the dramatic limestone peaks of Khao Khanab Nam, make this spot not only iconic but also one of the most photographed in Krabi Town.

A stroll with a view
The promenade along the Pak Nam River is a lovely place to go for a walk, especially in the early morning or late afternoon. Along the way, you can watch longtail boats pass by, visit local piers, and soak in views of the lush mangroves on the other side of the river. If you’re lucky, you might catch a local fisherman pulling in his daily catch.
A short walk from the sculpture will also lead you to local street food stalls and small shops, especially when the Black Crab Night Market is on in the evening. This is a great opportunity to sample authentic Thai snacks or pick up a small souvenir.
