Phra Nang Beach is located on the southern tip of the Railay Peninsula in Krabi Province, Thailand. Like the other beaches in the area—Railay West, Railay East, and Ton Sai—it’s only accessible by boat, which adds to its unspoiled charm. It’s a short walk from both Railay East and Railay West through scenic jungle trails and limestone paths.

What makes Phra Nang Beach special?

This beach is a visual spectacle. While all of Railay is known for towering cliffs and lush nature, Phra Nang Beach is arguably the most dramatic. Here, the limestone cliffs hang directly over the sand, creating a surreal backdrop. It’s also home to the famous Phra Nang Cave (Princess Cave), where locals leave colorful wooden phalluses as offerings to the goddess of the sea. Combined with the occasional monkey encounter and floating snack boats bobbing on the water, this beach feels like a fantasy brought to life.

Happy Island

Happy Island is a small limestone outcrop located just offshore from Phra Nang Beach in Krabi, Thailand. Accessible on foot only during low tide or by boat, this secluded spot offers a unique climbing experience with shaded routes throughout the day . While climbing is no longer permitted due to safety concerns, Happy Island remains a picturesque destination for visitors seeking tranquility away from the more crowded beaches. Its proximity to Phra Nang Beach makes it an ideal spot for exploration during a day trip to the Railay Peninsula.

Exploring the beach of Phra Nang (Krabi)

Phra Nang Beach boasts a wide stretch of soft, golden sand that’s both beautiful and comfortable. The beach is relatively compact, but the surrounding cliffs, caves, and rock formations make it feel like a natural amphitheater. To one side, you’ll find the mystical Princess Cave, and opposite the beach, a large limestone outcrop rises from the water. At low tide, you can walk out to it and discover a second hidden rock behind it, creating a magical, otherworldly vibe.

The sea at Phra Nang and its swimming conditions

The sea at Phra Nang is calm, clear, and inviting—ideal for swimming, floating, and snorkeling near the rocks. The best swimming months are between November and April, when the sea is at its calmest and clearest. The gradual slope into the water makes it safe for children, though always watch the tide. The beach is sheltered, so even windy days feel tranquil.

How to get to the Railay Peninsula near Ao Nang?

To reach Phra Nang Beach, you’ll need to travel by longtail boat:

Walk from Railay East or West: There is a walking path from Railay East and from Railay West you first need to get on that path in East.
From Ao Nang: 10–15 minute boat ride to Railay West or East, then a 15-minute walk to Phra Nang Beach.
From Krabi Town or Ao Nam Mao: 20–30 minutes by boat to Railay East, then walk over to the beach.

There is no road access, which helps preserve its peaceful and undeveloped atmosphere.
