Avatar Railay Resort: We just keep coming back

Have you ever stepped into a place that felt like stepping into a movie scene? That’s exactly what happened to us at Avatar Railay Resort. Nestled among Krabi’s towering limestone cliffs, this lush and laid-back resort reminded us instantly of James Cameron’s Avatar—without the blue creatures, but with all the awe. Located on the peaceful east side of Railay and just a short walk to our beloved Phra Nang Beach, Avatar Railay quickly became one of our favorite places to stay. Here’s our experience.

Location & Accessibility: Where in Krabi is Avatar Railay Resort located?

Avatar Railay Resort is located on the eastern side of Railay Beach, making it ideal if you’re arriving from Krabi Town, Koh Phi Phi, Koh Lanta, or Koh Yao Yai. The East Railay pier is practically next door—just a two-minute walk to the resort. If you’re coming from Ao Nang, you’ll arrive at Railay West and walk around 10 minutes through Railay Walking Street to reach the resort.

Service & Hospitality

Check-in was smooth and friendly. After receiving a welcome drink and a quick overview of the property, we and our luggage were escorted to our room. The staff throughout our stay were consistently kind and helpful, especially the manager, who always seemed to be around with a friendly smile. You immediately feel welcome here.

Architecture & Design

With lush gardens, winding footpaths, and ambient lighting at night, Avatar Railay feels like a tropical hideaway. The layout is compact but cleverly designed. The pool and garden spaces are filled with bean bags and hammocks by day, and transform into a cozy, glowing garden in the evening.

Ambiance & Atmosphere

This resort has a social yet chill vibe. Happy Hour draws guests together in the evening, and the musician playing live guitar adds just the right touch. Despite the social spaces, you can always retreat to your private balcony or poolside lounger for quiet moments.

Our Room: Deluxe Pool Access Room

We had originally booked a Deluxe Room with Pool View—our trusted favorite from past visits—but to our surprise, we were upgraded to a ground-floor Deluxe Pool Access Room. What a treat! Waking up and diving straight into the pool was such a luxurious start to the day.

The room itself was spacious and spotless, with a huge bed (think two double duvets wide), a minibar, safe, TV, and even a beach bag with towels. The semi-open bathroom was cleverly split into three sections—a separate toilet, shower room, and a vanity area with a large sink, mirror, and hairdryer. It all felt roomy, airy, and just right.

• Evening Live Music: Acoustic covers and soft guitar vibes in the garden
• Free Wi-Fi throughout the property
• Free iced and hot drinking water via the water dispensers on every floor

Food & Beverage

Breakfast is served at the open-air Bistrobar with views of the garden, breakfast includes both Thai and Western options—toast, fruit, fried rice, eggs made to order. Always fresh and filling.

Dinner at the Bistrobar is worth staying in for. We had calamari, bruschetta, Massaman curry, pasta, and finished off with a lava cake and ice cream. Everything was flavorful and reasonably priced.

From 17:00 to 20:00, you get 2-for-1 cocktails from a select list. The garden transforms with mood lighting and comfy bean bags scattered around. It’s a great place to meet other travelers or simply relax.unch and dinner could also be enjoyed here. The food was tasty, and although the resort doesn’t serve alcohol, you can buy it nearby and bring it in. We appreciated the flexibility!
