Ao Sai Beach: Our favorite beach on Koh Yao Yai

All the way on the southern tip of Koh Yao Yai you will find Ao Sai Beach. This untouched beach, with its natural beauty and calm ambiance, is one or maybe even our most favorite beach of the island. One of the reasons is that it’s for many Koh Yao Yai visitors an unknown beach. It’s als quite far from the tourist spots. This means that it is is super relaxed to spend some time here while having some drinks from the small beach stall located on the beach.

Where on Koh Yao Yai is Ao Sai Beach located?

Ao Sai Beach is situated in the southernmost part of Koh Yao Yai, an island in Phang Nga Bay between Phuket and Krabi. The beach is accessible via a dirt path that winds through lush jungle, leading adventurers to its pristine shores. The nearest settlement is a small fishing village at the east coast, approximately 500 meter away.

What makes Ao Sai Beach special?

Ao Sai Beach stands out for its untouched natural beauty and peaceful atmosphere. Unlike more developed beaches, Ao Sai lacks commercial establishments, allowing visitors to experience the raw charm of Koh Yao Yai. The beach has not many visitors, providing a perfect setting for relaxation and reflection. The nice thing of Ao Sai is that there is a small restaurant that also serves as an accommodation on the beach, they have a small camping with tents.

Ok this beach isn’t the preties of all beach as it features a mix of light-colored sand and pebbles, stretching along a gently curving bay. The shoreline is backed by dense vegetation and cliffs, offering natural shade and a sense of seclusion. The descent to the water is gentle, making it accessible for visitors of all ages.

Ao Sai Beach boasts clear turquoise waters that are calm and shallow, ideal for swimming and wading. The seabed consists of sand and pebbles, and the gentle slope ensures safe swimming conditions. The beach is best visited during high tide, as the water recedes significantly during low tide.

How to get to Ao Sai Beach on Koh Yao Yai

To reach Ao Sai Beach, you travel through the southern part of the island. You can rent a scooter or use local transport to navigate the bumpy trail leading to the beach. If you prefer to avoid the rough path, it’s best to park and walk the rest of the way. It takes about 45 minutes to get here from the northern part of Koh Yao Yai.
