Koh Yao Yai Village – A peaceful island escape with soul

Looking for a peaceful tropical escape? Welcome to Koh Yao Yai Village, an eco-luxury resort nestled among coconut palms and rubber trees on a quiet Thai island. Here, relaxed luxury blends with authenticity, and every sunrise over Phang Nga Bay feels special. Whether you’re leaving busy Phuket or seeking calm after exploring Thailand, this resort offers a chance to relax, breathe, and reconnect with nature and yourself.

Where on Koh Yao Yai is Koh Yao Yai Village located?

Koh Yao Yai Village is on the east coast of Koh Yao Yai, a quiet island between Phuket and Krabi. The resort is right on a calm beach with stunning views of limestone cliffs in the Andaman Sea. To get there, take a 30-minute speedboat ride from Phuket (Bang Rong Pier) or Krabi (Tha Len Pier or Ao Thalane), then a short car ride. The resort can arrange everything to make your trip easy and stress-free. It’s remote enough for a true getaway but still easy to reach.

Service & Hospitality

The staff at Koh Yao Yai Village show true Thai hospitality—always smiling and helpful, but never intrusive. From the warm welcome at check-in to thoughtful gestures during your stay, their kindness feels real. Need a transfer, dinner advice, or help with a boat tour? They’re quick and caring. What stood out was their personal, relaxed attention, just like the island itself.

Architecture & Design

Koh Yao Yai Village’s design celebrates the island’s natural beauty and traditional Southern Thai style. The resort offers an ‘ultimate island escape’ with villas made for stylish, relaxed living. Using natural materials like thatched roofs and local furnishings, it mixes rustic charm with modern comfort.

The resort blends with nature through its layout and materials. Set in a rainforest and close to the beach, the villas sit at the forest’s edge, enjoying shade and peace. This design adds beauty and keeps the resort calm and serene.

Atmosphere

Koh Yao Yai Village is a peaceful and relaxing place. It’s a great escape from busy tourist spots, offering a calm and easygoing atmosphere where visitors can unwind and enjoy nature. The resort is surrounded by lush rainforest with gentle wildlife sounds. Tall palm trees near the bungalows add to the natural feel. The village also has a 400-meter private beach, perfect for sunbathing and quiet walks. Guests say it’s peaceful, very clean, and quiet—ideal for a calm ocean getaway.

Room Types

Koh Yao Yai Village offers a selection of spacious villas that all emphasize privacy, comfort, and harmony with nature. Options include:

  • Deluxe Villas: Surrounded by tropical gardens, with indoor-outdoor bathrooms and shady terraces.
  • Sea View Villas: Elevated for panoramic views of Phang Nga Bay.
  • Beachfront Villas: Directly facing the sea, with private terraces and uninterrupted sunrise views.
  • Family Villas: Perfect for those traveling with kids or friends, offering extra space and extra beds.

Our Room: Deluxe Villa

During our stay at Koh Yao Yai Village, we stayed in the Deluxe Villa. It was just steps from the reception, restaurants, and beach. Located at the edge of a beautiful garden, we loved it!

Bedroom

The spacious bedroom had a luxurious king-sized bed with crisp, high-quality linens. Traditional Thai decor mixed with modern comforts created a relaxing vibe. Large windows let in plenty of natural light, and we loved waking up to the sunrise over the bay. A good mosquito net around the bed was very helpful in Thailand.

Outside living area

The living area, which doubled as outdoor space, was a highlight. It had a comfy seating area with a mosquito net, perfect for relaxing. The terrace had two sun loungers and a small dining area. Our fridge was outside, making it an ideal spot to enjoy morning coffee right after waking up.

Bathroom

The bathroom was semi-outdoor and absolutely beautiful. Imagine a rainfall shower in the middle of the tropical green, it felt so good being surrounded by plants, sunlight and the sound of the nature. It felt like showering in the jungle—but with hot water and some luxury amenities.

Facilities

Main Infinity Pool

The main pool at Koh Yao Yai Village is a large infinity pool with views of the Andaman Sea and Phang Nga Bay’s limestone cliffs. Surrounded by palm trees and tropical plants, it’s the most photogenic spot in the resort. There are many loungers and umbrellas, creating a calm atmosphere perfect for couples or solo travelers who want to relax in the sun. The pool is close to the restaurant and pool bar, so you can easily get a cocktail or snack while resting. The infinity pool offers pure relaxation, blending with the sea and giving the feeling of swimming into the horizon. The area has sun loungers, cabanas, and a pool bar with refreshing cocktails. Guests love watching the stunning sunsets here, making it a favorite spot all day.

Family Pool

Tucked away in a quieter corner of the resort is the family pool, designed with younger guests and families in mind. It’s shallower, with a gentle sloped entry that’s perfect for kids to play safely. This pool is surrounded by greenery and a bit more secluded, offering a relaxed space where families can enjoy the water without feeling like they’re disturbing other guests. It’s a great option if you’re traveling with little ones.

Kao Spa

Kao Spa offers Thai massages, facials, and wellness treatments using natural products. The treatment rooms are in a quiet garden area. While the massage wasn’t the best we’ve had at a resort, it might have been an off day or we’ve experienced many high-quality treatments elsewhere.

Located above the resort’s rice fields, Kao Spa is a peaceful place focused on well-being. Its simple yet elegant design features private treatment villas with views of the green surroundings. The signature Kao Spa Treatment combines Thai, aromatherapy, and deep tissue massage with a steamed rice ball compress for deep relaxation.

The spa uses local natural ingredients like lemongrass, coconut, and Thai herbs, offering refreshment and a connection to the area. Skilled therapists tailor each treatment to guests’ needs, creating a personal wellness experience. With its calm setting and expert care, the spa helps guests feel refreshed and renewed.

Small gym

The resort’s fitness center offers a variety of cardio machines, free weights, and resistance equipment. With large windows allowing natural light to flood the space, the gym offers inspiring views of the surrounding tropical landscape. Complimentary towels and water are available, and the facility is maintained to high hygiene standards.

Library & Lounge

A cozy open-air lounge houses a small library, board games, and reading nooks—perfect for escaping the midday heat. There’s also a shop selling handmade crafts and island-inspired clothing.

The Activity Center (you MUST book a private tour here!)

The Activity Center organizes trips and tours around Koh Yao Yai and nearby islands. Activities include kayaking, snorkeling, cooking classes, and Thai boxing lessons. The staff are knowledgeable and can suggest experiences based on your interests. Whether exploring mangroves or cooking local dishes, the center makes your island stay more memorable.

One day, we took a private island tour, and it was one of the best we’ve had in the region. We’ve done many tours in Railay and other Krabi spots, but this time was truly special! Our guide and captain were very friendly, and we really enjoyed the trip!

We visited Hong Island, Lao La Ding Island, and Pak Bia Island. We had lunch at the most beautiful spot you can imagine—even better than The Grotto in Railay, where we got engaged years ago! If you stay at this resort, be sure to book this tour and ask about our experience!

Food & Drinks

Koh Yao Yai Village offers dining that showcases Thailand’s rich food heritage using fresh, local ingredients. From elegant restaurants to casual beachfront spots, each place provides a unique experience.

Khayee Restaurant

As the main dining venue at Koh Yao Yai Village, Khayee Restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner with a focus on Thai and international cuisine. The spacious open-air setting provides stunning views of the infinity pool and Phang Nga Bay, enhancing the dining experience.

For lunch, we enjoyed a delicious combination of a vegetable pizza and Som Tam with grilled chicken—the latter being an absolute must-try! The following evening, we treated ourselves to a flavorful feast, including green curry, Massaman curry, and crispy spring rolls. Each dish was packed with those signature Thai flavors that we love.

To wrap up our final night at the resort, we sipped on expertly crafted cocktails while watching the sun set over the sea. The sky transformed into a canvas of colors, complemented by the mesmerizing glow of vibrant green fishing lights on the horizon—a perfect ending to our stay.

Breakfast at Khayee Restaurant

Breakfast at Koh Yao Yai Village is relaxed and tasty, served in an open-air restaurant with garden and sea views. The buffet has Thai and Western choices like tropical fruits, fresh juices, made-to-order eggs, fried rice, pancakes, and daily local dishes. We loved starting our day with sticky rice, grilled vegetables, and strong Thai coffee. The calm atmosphere, birds singing, and gentle breeze made breakfast a peaceful way to begin the day.

Krachang Restaurant

Krachang Bar & Grill, right on the beach, offers a relaxed and welcoming dining experience. They specialize in grilled seafood and light snacks, making it a great place for dinner while watching the sunset. Though we arrived late, we had to try the lobster thermidor—it was fantastic! We also enjoyed the grilled tiger prawns, cooked perfectly and served with a tangy Thai green chili sauce—a real favorite! The casual vibe and the sound of the waves made our meal at Krachang Bar & Grill unforgettable.

Pool Bar

A casual poolside bar served smoothies, cocktails, and snacks all day. Their coconut shakes were very addictive, and the sunset happy hour mojitos were perfect. Located by the infinity pool, the bar offers a great selection of tropical drinks and light snacks. The swim-up feature lets guests order drinks without leaving the water, making for a relaxed poolside experience.

Waiter serving food by the pool at Koh Yao Yai Village Resort in Thailand

We treated ourselves to a few cocktails while enjoying the amazing view of the bay and sea. Another day, we had a light lunch with Thai snacks and fresh fruit smoothies—pure joy! Life felt perfect as we relaxed by the pool with great drinks and beautiful scenery.

The Nest Cafe & Gallery

The Nest Cafe & Gallery is a cozy place offering coffee, organic teas, cookies, and cakes made with local ingredients. It also serves as a gallery, displaying local artists’ work, adding a cultural touch. During our stay at Koh Yao Yai Village, we enjoyed a cappuccino here every morning—a great way to start the day. The coffee was strong and well-made, and the cakes were tasty. It’s a nice addition to the resort’s food options, providing a relaxing break during island adventures.
