Wat Plai Laem: A Colorful Temple Complex in Koh Samui
Wat Plai Laem is an impressive, colorful temple complex. You can see the smiling Buddha and the 18-armed Buddha from afar. Between the two statues, there is also a large temple. The temple and the Buddhas stand in the middle of a landscaped pond, which makes it extra special. To see the temple and statues up close, you first have to cross colorful bridges.

Wat Plai Laem: A serene temple for all ages!
Wat Plai Laem doesn’t feel very touristy. Amid the greenery, there are many benches in the shade, and despite the presence of tourists, a serene atmosphere prevails. Perhaps it’s because the temple complex is spacious and the statues are so large that they immediately command respect. When you make a donation at the temple complex, you receive a bag of fish food. You can also purchase fish food for 10 baht from a vending machine. The pond surrounding Wat Plai Laem is filled with large fish and turtles eager to be fed—making it a fun activity for children and adults alike!

Spiritual wonders of Wat Plai Laem
The meaning of the Wat Plai Laem Buddha statues is as follows: The 18-armed statue represents the goddess Guanyin, who grants healthy children and protects sailors from danger. The smiling Buddha, also known as Budai Buddha, symbolizes prosperity and joy. The large temple situated between the two statues rests on a massive lotus flower. This temple is guarded by two fearsome-looking guardians and snakes that coil over the banister. However, there is no need to be afraid, as Buddha gestures to indicate that you are welcome and have nothing to fear! Inside the temple, you can view paintings depicting the life lessons of Buddhism.
