Maenam’s long beach is lined with everything from budget bungalows and luxury resorts to a handful of bars. If you’re after a wild party with loud music, this probably isn’t the spot. Instead, it’s perfect for relaxing—whether that’s reading a good book or getting a massage right on the sand.

One thing to keep in mind is that the sea here drops off pretty quickly, so it might not be the best choice for families with small kids. The water’s usually calm, but during high tide, the beach gets quite narrow, which can make walking along the shore a bit tricky. On the upside, the water is almost always deep enough for a swim. Just be aware that currents can sometimes affect how clear the water is.

The Golf and Country Club at Koh Samui Maenam is also close to the beautiful Santiburi Golf and Country Club, a luxury 18-hole golf course set amidst the palm trees and rolling hills of Koh Samui. This golf club is part of the luxurious Santiburi Koh Samui Resort, located on the beach of Maenam. The resort offers lavish villas and suites, some featuring private pools or sea views. The hotel organizes daily activities for its youngest guests, and every Friday evening, there is a parents’ night off, allowing children to be entertained until 10 PM so parents can enjoy some time to themselves. Guests at Santiburi Koh Samui receive priority for tee times on the golf course, and there is a complimentary shuttle bus service to the course.

Walking Street Maenam

Parallel to the beach, there are side streets with shops and restaurants. In the middle of Maenam Bay is Walking Street, recognizable by the golden arch that reads “Chinatown Maenam.” Nearby, you can visit a Chinese temple. The streets around Maenam Pier also feature several restaurants, bars, and massage parlors. Every Thursday evening from 5 PM to about 10 PM, there is a cozy evening market in Chinatown Maenam, where most stalls offer tasty snacks and souvenirs. Don’t expect to wander around for hours, as Maenam’s Walking Street is not very large. However, there’s no need to worry; the biggest and most famous weekend market in Koh Samui is at Bophut Beach, just a ten-minute drive from Maenam!

Transport from Maenam Beach to other destinations.The airport in Koh Samui is located ten kilometers from Maenam Beach, giving you the freedom to explore the rest of Thailand! Flying to and from Koh Samui is affordable but tends to be pricier compared to other destinations in Thailand. Flight tickets are cheaper if you book early; last-minute bookings are not recommended. Flights are frequently fully booked, or you may have to pay the full price. A more budget-friendly option is to fly into Surat Thani. From Surat Thani, you can take a boat/bus combination ticket, which can be purchased locally or in advance through 12Go Asia.

Tip

To travel cheaply to Chaweng Beach, Bophut Beach, or any beach on Koh Samui, walk to the main road and take the red Songthaew vans. These vans follow a fixed route across the island. Although you may have to wait, it’s much cheaper than renting a taxi.

Most hotels offer bungalows or rooms in various price ranges. There are also middle-class and budget accommodations located right on the beach. You won’t have to worry about noise pollution at Maenam Beach. Many travelers extend their stay because of the relaxed atmosphere!
