Choeng Mon Beach is a beautiful one-kilometer-long bay with fine white sand located in the northeast of Koh Samui. Although more hotels have been added in recent years, it remains relatively quiet. In addition to couples seeking peace and tranquility, many families also enjoy a well-deserved holiday here. The sea gradually deepens, and due to the shelter of the bay, the water is usually very calm, making Choeng Mon Beach a very child-friendly destination. It is also an excellent spot for adults or anyone looking for a serene place to relax in the warm, clear, shallow water. Reading a book or sunbathing in the gentle surf is a delightful experience. As the sea slowly deepens, the water in the bay warms up nicely. On sunny days, the sea is pleasantly lukewarm—a true tropical paradise!

Koh Fan Yai & Koh Fan Noi: Your Luxurious Island Escape Near Choeng Mon Beach

Koh Fan Yai and Koh Fan Noi are two small islands located opposite the southern part of Choeng Mon Beach. At low tide, you can walk there; however, it’s advisable to wear water shoes due to some rocky areas in the sea. In 2019, the luxurious five-star Cape Fahn Hotel and The Crest Restaurant opened on the islands. At this resort, you can literally and figuratively bathe in luxury, as almost all villas come with a private pool!

Spending the night at Choeng Mon Beach – Which accommodation should you choose?

Spending the night at Choeng Mon Beach – Which accommodation? In the bay, you’ll find a mix of mid-range hotels and luxury resorts, including some very fancy options. We haven’t seen any hostels or truly cheap hotels. The cheapest hotel we found is the Samui Mekkala Resort & Pool Villa, with prices starting from about 30 euros. The beach at Choeng Mon is just a few minutes’ walk away. If you want to stay close to the street with restaurants and shops, the middle of the beach and everything south of it is your best option. South of the beach, near the islands, the beach is completely dry at low tide. However, since the bay is not very large, it’s never far to walk if you want to swim or do some shopping.

Restaurants and drinks at Choeng Mon Beach

On the beach of Choeng Mon, there are plenty of restaurants where you can eat to your heart’s content, but there’s more! On the main road (see map below), you’ll find a cozy street with a 7-Eleven, restaurants, bars, and massage parlors. One of the restaurants on this street is The Mother Restaurant, which is often busy—and for good reason! The price-to-quality ratio is excellent! In other words, you can enjoy delicious food at reasonable prices. The menu is extensive, featuring everything from authentic Thai dishes to pasta and burgers. The service comes with a smile! Don’t miss it! Just a hundred meters away, you can enjoy cocktails in a cozy atmosphere at Bar Cocktail King. During the (very long) happy hour (6 PM – 12 AM), cocktails are only 79 baht.

Travel from Choeng Mon Beach

The airport in Koh Samui is just 5 kilometers from Choeng Mon Beach, so you’re free to explore the rest of Thailand or head home whenever you like. Flying to and from Koh Samui is pretty affordable, but it can be pricier compared to other spots in Thailand. If you book your flight early, you’ll snag cheaper tickets; last-minute bookings during the Dutch school holidays are a no-go. Flights fill up quickly, and if you wait too long, you might have to pay full price. A budget-friendly alternative is to fly into Surat Thani. From there, you can grab a boat/bus combo ticket, which you can buy either locally or in advance through 12Go Asia.
