Phi Phi Viewpoint: Stunning Island Views After a Scenic Hike
The Phi Phi Viewpoint offers an incredible vantage point to admire the stunning beauty of the Phi Phi Islands. Capture breathtaking photos of the picturesque bays without needing a drone, but be prepared for a workout! After climbing steep stairs and navigating a sloping path, you’ll be rewarded with unforgettable views that make the effort worthwhile.

Phi Phi Viewpoint: A must-see spot on Koh Phi Phi
The Phi Phi Viewpoint is the perfect spot for a breathtaking view of the stunning Phi Phi island. This viewpoint is where many beautiful pictures of the two bays are taken. You don’t need a drone, but you will need a bit of stamina! To reach the three different viewpoints of Koh Phi Phi, you must first climb many steep stairs. After that, a slightly sloping path awaits. However, the reward is more than worth the effort!
How do you get to the viewpoint
To reach Phi Phi Viewpoint 1, you must conquer 343 steep steps, making the journey challenging. Once you have ascended the stairs, you will pass the cash register and pay the entrance fee, which grants access to both viewpoints 1 and 2. Alcohol is not permitted at the viewpoint, and violations incur a fine. However, you can purchase drinks and food at the box office.

Viewpoint 1
You can’t miss the fact that you have arrived at Viewpoint 1, as it is displayed in cow letters alongside “I LOVE PHI PHI.” These letters can be seen from parts of Ton Sai Village. Viewpoint 1 features images of fruit, flowers, chickens, and other animals, making it a neatly maintained green space. The view from Phi Phi Viewpoint 1 is already quite stunning! You can see part of the two bays (Ton Sai on the left and Loh Dalum on the right) and the cliffs behind the island.

The Impact of the 2004 Tsunami on Koh Phi Phi
The 2004 tsunami at Viewpoint 1 on Koh Phi Phi serves as a memorial for the disaster that struck Thailand and the Phi Phi Islands in 2004. Many people sought higher ground to escape the rising tide. Here, you can see pictures from before and after the tsunami—one day later and ten years later. It’s very impressive!

Is it hard to get to the viewpoint number 2?
To reach Viewpoint 2, you’ll need to go a little further; the road here has a gentle incline that you can definitely feel in your calves. At Viewpoint 2, there’s a café/restaurant with a rooftop terrace. The area is dotted with large rocks that make for perfect seating while you take in the view. Plus, there’s a spacious jetty where you can enjoy some fantastic sights as well. There’s plenty of room to relax!

Phi Phi Viewpoint 1, 2, 3….4!
Sorry, you’re not quite there yet… It seems not many people know there are 4 viewpoints on the island. At Viewpoint 2, the signs say “Top View,” which makes it sound like there isn’t a higher viewpoint. But that’s not true! Because of this misunderstanding, it got pretty crowded around sunset at viewpoints 1 and 2, while Viewpoint 3 had only a handful of visitors.

The path to Viewpoint 3 is a bit rougher and follows an irregular route. But don’t worry, it’s not far; it takes no more than 15 minutes to get there from Viewpoint 2. While you’re walking through a natural area, the route isn’t the most scenic. There’s quite a bit of litter along the way, and we even spotted an abandoned restaurant.

However, at Viewpoint 3, there’s a lovely restaurant with a charming jetty run by a friendly family. Before you can go in, you’ll need to take off your shoes and pay a 20 baht entrance fee at the restaurant. Just a heads-up: your ticket for viewpoints 1 and 2 doesn’t work here.
Tip
There’s now a fourth viewpoint & restaurant on Phi Phi, which is part of the PP Mountain Beach Resort. You can reach it on foot from Viewpoint 3 for those who enjoy a bit of extra hiking and a super cool view!

Best time to visit Phi Phi Viewpoint
During sunset, Viewpoint 2 is particularly crowded, and for good reason. When the weather is nice, it’s a beautiful spot on Koh Phi Phi to watch the sunset. To secure a good spot, avoid arriving just before sunset, as most people tend to do. Bring something to drink—perhaps from the rooftop of a restaurant—and enjoy the view. The viewpoint is also worth visiting before sunset! Prefer fewer crowds? Then go in the early morning when most people are still asleep.
Tip
If you plan to watch the sunset, make sure to bring a flashlight or something similar, and don’t forget the mosquito repellent! In the jungle, it’s always feeding time for those pesky mosquitoes!
