The Original Full Moon Party

At dusk the Full Moon Party starts slowly and once dark the basses sound louder and louder. The party goes on all night and only calms down a bit towards the end of the morning. Of course there are several places where you can regenerate so in fact you can party for 24 hours if you want. On and around the beach there are several areas where you will also find a diversity of music. Think Techno / Goa (Psy Trance) / (Deep) House / Electro / D&B / Trance / Commercial music with occasionally even a kind of Reggae House.

Neon & Buckets

Many are familiar with the photographs of people with luminous (neon) drawings on their bodies and faces with a bucket of mixed drink (bucket) in their hands. The price for a bucket containing a mix drink with for example vodka red bull or (Thai) whisky cola costs on average 200 baht on the way to the beach. On the beach itself, a bucket soon costs twice as much. By the way, most buckets are quite advantageous for the alcohol in terms of alcohol / soda ratio. Drinking a bottle of water every now and then will help you through the warm night and especially the next day. The price of a tattoo with neon paint differs per quality, surface, creation and so on.

Half Moon and other parties

In addition to the Full Moon Party, there’s also the Half Moon Party (why not?), and on the beach of Haad Rin, there’s almost always something happening in between to celebrate. For instance, the Jungle Party takes place the night before the Full Moon Party. Throughout Koh Phangan and even on Koh Samui, large signs advertise upcoming events, making them hard to miss.

How to get to the Full Moon Party?

While there’s no airport on Koh Phangan just yet—plans for one have been in the pipeline for some time—reaching this tropical paradise is an adventure in itself, primarily accessible by boat.

Ferries are your best bet for getting to Koh Phangan, with options departing from two key piers on the mainland: Chumphon and Surat Thani. For those already exploring nearby islands, you can also catch a ferry from Koh Tao or Koh Samui, making it easy to include Koh Phangan in your itinerary.

Upon arriving at the Thong Sala pier, excitement builds as you prepare for the legendary Full Moon Party at Haad Rin beach. The drive to the beach takes about half an hour. You can opt for a taxi, rent a scooter for a more adventurous ride, or hop on one of the minibuses that wait at the pier. These shared vans charge just 100 baht per person and are located at the beginning of the pier, so be prepared to wait until they’re full before departing. When a ferry arrives, this process is usually very quick.

Once you reach Haad Rin village, a entry fee of 100 baht is required to access the Full Moon Party. Upon payment, you’ll receive a wristband as proof of entry,
