Just a five-minute walk from Walking Street, you’ll reach our favorite beach in Koh Lipe: Sunrise Beach! Seriously, you should kick off each day here with a stunning sunrise. This gorgeous stretch of sand is about one and a half kilometers long and sits on the island’s east side. You’ll find plenty of bars, restaurants, and resorts along the way. The water is crystal clear and has a lovely temperature. So, rise and shine to catch the sunrise because this is where the day truly begins!

A guide to Koh Lipe’s northern shore

A walk from north to south along Sunrise Beach takes about twenty minutes. However, since you’ll likely stop occasionally to take photos or just soak in the scenery, you can count on it taking around half an hour. The northern part of the beach is wider and leads to the northern side of Koh Lipe. This is also where we were dropped off when we arrived on the island in. Here, you’ll find a floating pier and a meeting point for checking in if you need to leave the island again. From this side, there’s a clear view of Koh Adang, but don’t expect to snorkel too far from the shore.

Explore the best resorts in southern Lipe

Heading south from Sunrise Beach, you’ll come across a number of restaurants. Along this stretch of coastline, you’ll still find some affordable hotels, though most are resorts that can be a bit pricey. You’re practically sleeping on the beach here! At Sunrise Beach, there are plenty of longtail boats available for snorkeling trips or to take you to other beaches.

If you keep walking further south, you’ll reach our favorite spot on the island. Just pass the rocks at Kathalee Beach Resort & Spa, and you’ll arrive at Ten Moons Lipe Resort. Here, you’ll discover a tiny bay where, with a bit of luck, you and a few others might just have the beach all to yourselves! Enjoy the warm sea water and the incredibly fine powdery sand! On a clear day, you can even catch a glimpse of Koh Tarutao and the Malaysian island of Langkawi.

Affordable accommodations on Koh Lipe

If you’re looking for budget accommodation, Sunrise Beach isn’t really the place for you. Good, cheap sleeping spots are pretty hard to come by on Koh Lipe, and your chances are almost zero at the beach. Fortunately, you can still find some nice and affordable places in the center. And don’t worry, the distance to the beach is usually easy to walk!
