Tricky Trocky Beach Koh Lanta Yai: Hidden, quiet beach

Tricky Rocky Beach on Koh Lanta is a hidden, rocky beach on the west coast of Thailand, tucked between Beautiful Beach and Klong Khong Beach. Quiet, untouched, and it’s perfect for travelers who love secret spots, swimming, and snorkeling in a natural setting.

Where is Tricky Trocky Beach on Koh Lanta?

Tricky Trocky Beach is, like Beautiful Beach, not an official beach name on Koh Lanta. On Google Maps, this name is used for a small, rocky stretch of beach on the west coast, between Beautiful Beach and Klong Khong Beach. The name does not come from local usage; rather, Google Maps has adopted it as a separate location. In reality, this section of coastline simply falls under Phra Ae Beach (south) or the northern part of Klong Khong Beach and does not have its own Thai name.

How do you get to Tricky Trocky Beach?

It’s not a beach you just happen to pass by; it’s somewhat hidden and therefore less well known among day trippers. The best way to get there is by scooter. Google Maps will take you to near the beach, but the final stretch goes over a bumpy, partly unpaved road. Cows roam in this area and it can sometimes be muddy. At the end, there is a short rocky path leading down toward the beach. Another way to reach Tricky Rocky Beach is via a short walk from the neighboring Beautiful Beach.

What can you expect at the beach?

Tricky‑Rocky Beach is small and consists mostly of rocks, with here and there sandy patches depending on the tide. There are no facilities: no beach bar, no toilets, and no sunbeds. That is also exactly why it remains so quiet here. The water becomes deep fairly quickly, making the beach suitable for swimming. Along the rocks it is also a great place for snorkeling. In calm weather the bay is well sheltered and the sea is often calm.

Best time to visit Tricky Trocky Beach

The morning is the best time. It is often completely empty then, and the water is usually calm as well. At low to mid tide you have a bit more sand and it is easier to enter the water. At the end of the afternoon the beach is popular with people who come for the sunset, although there is very little space to sit or lie down.

Handy tips

Bring enough water and possibly something to eat if you plan to stay here for a long time, because you won’t find anything here. Mosquito spray is not a luxury, especially around sunrise and sunset. Be careful on wet rocks; water shoes can be helpful here.
