Gathi Cafe: Relaxed dining among palm trees with ocean views on Koh Kood
Set by the sea at Shantaa Resort and surrounded by swaying palm trees, Gathi Cafe is a laid-back spot with both indoor and outdoor seating, plus beanbags where you can sink in while enjoying the ocean view. In 2023 we shared a delicious chocolate cake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and an iced coffee – not cheap, but absolutely worth it for a location like this. The menu features simple meals, coffee, smoothies, and drinks, all open to non-guests. With its relaxed vibe, sea views, and tropical setting, Gathi Cafe is perfect for breakfast, a light lunch, some sweet pastries or sunset drinks.
Revisit in 2025
Visiting Koh Kood again in November 2025, nearly three years after our first trip, we just had to stop by Gathie Café once more. Our first experience was fantastic, and this time didn’t disappoint either!
We relaxed on the bean bags, sipping refreshing drinks like an apple mocktail and a delicious coconut smoothie. For dessert, we tasted two homemade cheesecakes: mango and salted caramel. The mango cheesecake was the clear favorite—fresh, sweet, and creamy.
If you’re staying on Koh Kood, don’t miss this spot. The garden is beautifully kept, and the café staff are friendly and welcoming!

Koh Kood
Big Chai Tree & Makkayuk Tree
The Big Chai Tree and the Makkayuk Tree are massive, ancient trees deep in the jungle of Koh Kood. They’re over 500 years old and hold a special spiritual significance for the Thai people. According to local belief, when a woman passes away on Koh Kood, her spirit is said to go to these trees. You’ll notice several of them wrapped in orange cloth, and on one tree, there was even a dress adorned with flowers. It’s a unique, mystical spot that’s definitely worth a visit if you’re heading to the nearby Huang Nam Waterfall.
