Sheltered Swimming at Sunset Beach

In our opinion, Sunset Beach is one of the most beautiful and peaceful beaches on Koh Jum. The bay has calm, clear water and is surrounded in several places by rocks that seem to have been deliberately placed there to hold back the current. As a result, sheltered swimming areas have formed, making it ideal for cooling off.

You can do a bit of snorkeling at Sunset Beach, but for the real snorkeling experience—with lots of colorful fish—it’s better to book a snorkeling tour to the nearby islands.

Along the beach, there are just a few small resorts with beautiful wooden bungalows. Don’t expect luxury villas or large hotel complexes here, but rather simple, lovingly furnished accommodations just a stone’s throw from the sea.

You’ll also find a few small restaurants and bars that blend beautifully into the surroundings. One particularly lovely place is the Ting Tong Bar. This bar is built partly on the beach and partly on a rock in the sea. The beach is surrounded by many trees, providing pleasant shaded spots for almost the entire day. Sometimes monkeys crossed the beach. Fortunately, they were much more relaxed here than in many other places in Thailand and didn’t seem much interested in our belongings.

How to get to Sunset Beach

Sunset Beach is most easily reached by scooter. The road is in reasonably good condition. Follow the ring road around the island and continue after passing Magic Beach. The road ends at Sunset Beach. Here, you can also book snorkeling trips, including excursions to the famous Phi Phi Islands or the island around Krabi.

There is no road behind the beach, only jungle. The other bars and restaurants farther along can therefore only be reached on foot by walking along the beach.

What to do at Sunset Beach?

You can hike from there to Koh Jum’s highest mountain. We also saw a sign for a Finnish sauna in a small, stone, dome-shaped building. It cost 200 baht, but we skipped it because we were already hot enough. You can also book trips to nearby islands. However, the most popular activity may be doing nothing while enjoying a fresh coconut.

Who is Sunset Beach for?

Sunset Beach on Koh Jum is a great place to relax for a few days. Read a book on the beach or swim in the sea, just a short walk from your bungalow. In the evening, have a meal at one of the friendly restaurants or bars on the beach. We think it’s perfect for couples and anyone who enjoys peace and nature.
