Magic Beach Koh Jum: A Secluded and Quiet Beach Getaway

Magic Beach at Koh Jum is a small, secluded beach north of Ting-rai Beach. If you enjoy discovering quiet, hidden spots and don’t mind putting in a little extra effort to get there, this lovely little cove is well worth a visit—and you’ll probably have it all to yourself..

How do you reach Magic Beach?

The route begins on a path made of concrete slabs, but the last part becomes an uneven dirt track with a few large rocks. It can be challenging after rain, though some sections remain difficult even when the weather is dry. Before reaching the beach, you’ll pass the Electric Bar, which was unfortunately closed when we visited. Its name comes from the electricity pylon beside it. Once you spot it, you’ll know you’re heading in the right direction.

At one point, we parked the scooter and walked the last stretch to Magic Beach, because the road there also started sloping steeply downhill. Fortunately, it was only a few minutes’ walk, and we could already see Magic Beach through the trees.

Super clear and calm sea

From the path, you have to scramble down about 1.5 meters to reach the lower beach. There used to be some kind of staircase, but it was broken—or did we miss another route?

Upon reaching the beach, the remarkably clear and peaceful water was the first thing we noticed. The water is very shallow at the beginning. Sadly, some scattered litter could be seen among the plants along the shoreline, likely carried in by the current.

Can you stay at Magic Beach?

Unfortunately, there are no places to stay directly on the beach, and you won’t find a restaurant or resort there either. We only came across a few wooden remains that may have belonged to a small bar that once stood on the beach. If you continue along the road past Magic Beach, you’ll eventually reach another beach whose name we couldn’t discover. Several resorts with bungalows are located there, including OonLee Bungalows and Koh Jum Resort, offering a peaceful and secluded stay on Koh Jum. Ting-rai Beach, south of Magic Beach, also offers several accommodation options.
