Coconut Beach on Koh Jum: photogenic palm trees

Coconut Beach, or Ao Phrao Beach, is a quiet little beach on Koh Jum’s western coast. Surrounded by tall coconut palms and clear, shallow water, it offers a relaxed, authentic setting with just a few local fishermen.

Nice stopover

Although the beach, due to the pebbles and limited space, isn’t the best place for a full beach day, Coconut Beach is a nice stopover during a tour around the island. It’s especially the right place for beautiful palm tree photos.

Can you swim there?

The water was clear and shallow when we visited, so you have to go a little farther out into the sea to swim. There were quite a few pebbles on the beach, as well as the usual debris from the trees. Since it was also high tide at the time, there was little space left to lay down a towel.n.

Maybe we visited at the wrong time, but Coconut Beach didn’t seem like a place to spend the whole day relaxing by the sea. We’d choose one of Koh Jum’s other beautiful beaches instead.

Beautiful for photos

Coconut Beach is surrounded by a kind of grassy field with tall palm trees that stand out beautifully against the sky. It’s therefore a lovely place to stop for a while during a tour of Koh Jum and take some beautiful holiday photos.

Although there are many palm trees, they give little shade. The beach can get hot quickly when the sun is out.

Local fishermen at work

During our visit, we saw local fishermen looking for small fish to use as bait. There were also two other tourists, but apart from them, the beach was deserted.

Mupa Resort is on Coconut Beach. It has wooden bungalows and serves food and drinks.

The access road to Coconut Beach

The last part of the road, after leaving the main road to the beach, is a kind of compacted dirt track. In dry weather, this route is manageable if you drive carefully, but after rain the path can become slippery and more difficult to navigate. If you have little scooter-riding experience, the route can be challenging in wet conditions.

Is Coconut Beach worth visiting?

Coconut Beach is enjoyable if you are looking for peace and quiet, beautiful palm trees, and an authentic local atmosphere. For us, the beach was mainly suitable for a short stop during a tour around Koh Jum. You can take beautiful photos, watch local fishermen at work, and enjoy the calm surroundings for a while.

For a full day at the beach, however, we found it less suitable. Because of the pebbles and the high water level, there was little space to lie down comfortably.
