Kai Bae Beach on Koh Chang – Laid-back, family-friendly, and full of charm

Looking for that sweet spot on Koh Chang where you can enjoy soft sand, calm waters, and a warm local vibe without the party crowds of Lonely Beach or the busy feel of White Sand Beach? Kai Bae Beach is your place. This west coast beauty strikes the perfect balance between relaxation, convenience, and just enough things to do. Ideal for couples, families, and anyone wanting that classic Thai beach experience with a touch of local flair.

Where on Koh Chang is Kai Bae Beach located?

Kai Bae Beach lies on the west coast of Koh Chang, Thailand’s second-largest island in the Gulf of Thailand. It’s situated just south of Klong Prao Beach and north of the more bohemian Lonely Beach. From the ferry pier at Ao Sapparot, it takes about 30 to 40 minutes by car or songthaew (shared taxi) to reach Kai Bae.

What makes this beach special and why should you visit?

Kai Bae Beach is one of those rare beaches that caters to almost every type of traveler. It’s quiet enough to relax but not too sleepy—there are still great restaurants, cute cafés, massage spots, and mini-markets. The calm, shallow sea makes it very family-friendly, and the sunsets over the nearby islands are simply magical.

Kai Bae Beach itself

Kai Bae is a medium-sized beach, about 800 meters long, with soft, golden sand and palm trees providing natural shade along much of the coast. The beach feels spacious, even during high season, and it’s easy to find a peaceful corner. The view includes small islands offshore—especially Koh Man Nai, which you can kayak to in under 30 minutes. There are swings, hammocks, and longtail boats waiting for your next adventure.

The sea

The sea at Kai Bae is calm and shallow, especially during the dry season (November to April). That makes it perfect for swimming with children, floating around, or even walking far into the sea at low tide. It’s less ideal for snorkeling, but great for paddleboarding and kayaking. In the green season (May to October), the sea can get a little rougher, but it’s still swimmable on most days.

How to get there

From Bangkok, it’s about 5 to 6 hours to reach Koh Chang by bus or private car, followed by a short 30-minute ferry ride from the mainland (Laem Ngop Pier). Once on the island, you can take a shared songthaew or rent a motorbike to reach Kai Bae. Most resorts offer transfer services, and taxis are easily arranged from the ferry.
