Bang Niang Beach: Khao Lak’s Heart

Bang Niang Beach is a lovely long sandy beach in Khao Lak. The water is warm and perfect for swimming. Bang Niang is together with Nang Thong Beach one of the most popular beach destinations in Khao Lak. Yet there are still quiet stretches of beach next to the cozy restaurants and resorts. The beach is therefore also popular among couples and families who want to relax.

Bang Niang Beach has a little more nightlife than Nang Tong Beach. Bars can be found mainly in the side street to the beach. On this street you will also find most of the middle class hotels. From the end of this street to the beach it is about 10 minutes walk, still good to do. Also on the main road, Petchkasem Road, there are a number of accommodations and restaurants.

It’s good to know that at high tide there is not much beach left on some stretches, you have to walk a bit further. The southern part of the beach is less troubled by this. Most resorts on the beach have elevated their grounds so that guests don’t have to worry about this and still can lie by the sea with a sun bed.

What to do at Bang Niang Beach?

In the village near Bang Niang Beach there are a few popular sights, such as the Tsunami Museum with the washed up boat that ended up 1 km inland due to the tsunami. Also the popular Bang Niang Night Market is not to be missed! You can buy snacks, drinks, clothes and of course souvenirs. It is the most famous market of Khao Lak. Less known, but also cozy is the Build Container Market.

In the side streets to and on the main road there are good and affordable restaurants in nice settings. Of course you should not miss the street food at the Bang Niang Night Market.

Khao Lak isn’t immediately known for its great nightlife and yet you can have a number of cozy evenings in one of the bars or the only nightclub. Also in Bang Niang itself you can go out in some nice and sometimes special bars including cabaret show. Also the only club of Khao Lak is located here in Bang Niang.
