From Thailand with LOVE Campaign (2020)

Because the Corona crisis we all need some extra love, we asked our Thai friends and relations to write a piece from the heart. Be nice to yourself and to each other! “And, in the end the love you take is equal to the love you make.” – Paul McCartney Ilonka & Riel Dear all below: Thanks for the messages from the heart!

About us

From Passion to Platform: The Story Behind Thailand Magazine

Before founding Thailand Magazine, we led very different lives. Ilonka worked as a teacher and later became the director of a school for children with disabilities in the Netherlands. Riel, on the other hand, spent over 25 years running his own company, promoting international festivals, events, clubs, artists, and electronic music around the globe.

Everything changed after our first trip to Thailand together. While Ilonka had already been visiting the country since the late ’90s, this shared journey inspired us to create something meaningful — a platform to celebrate and promote the country we had both come to love. And so, in 2018, Thailand Magazine was born.

Even during the challenging Covid-19 period, we never stopped working. Our passion for Thailand kept us going, and we continued creating content with dedication and love. Seven years later, Thailand Magazine has grown into a platform with more than 1,300 articles. We’ve had the privilege of collaborating with countless travel and hospitality partners, always with one goal in mind:
To showcase the incredible Thai hospitality, stunning nature, rich culture, warm-hearted people, and of course — its unforgettable cuisine.

A Personal Connection That Runs Deep
Riel’s bond with Thailand goes back even further than his first ever visit to Thailand years later. Right after the devastating 2004 tsunami, he organized a large-scale fundraising campaign to support Thailand and other affected regions across Asia. Thanks to the generosity of visitors at numerous events and club nights held in late December 2004 and early January 2005, over €40,000 was donated to aid those in need.

More about this initiative can be found in the article: Dance Scene Shows Commitment Right After the Devastating Tsunami in Asia.
