Vijit Chao Phraya 2025 – Light of Siam along the River of Kings (Bangkok)

The largest light and cultural festival in Thailand, free to enjoy from November 9 to December 23, 2025

Between November 9 and December 23, 2025, the Chao Phraya River transforms into a kilometers-long light spectacle every evening. Vijit Chao Phraya 2025 is the biggest free light and culture festival in Thailand. This year’s theme is “The Light of Siam: Mother of the Nation.” It is a tribute to Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother, highlighting the country’s cultural heritage and unity.

Visiting Bangkok in November or December? Then this festival is an absolute must. It’s completely free and easily one of the most beautiful evening activities along the river.

We were invited by Khana Yacht Charter to join more than twenty Thai influencers for a river-cruise experience. Along the route, we saw light projections on historic buildings, cultural performances, and a magical drone show featuring 1,000 drones above the river. In this article, we’ll guide you through all the highlights we saw during our cruise.

Khana Yacht Charter

We were asked to check in around 19:00 at Tha Maharaj Pier, directly opposite The Coffee Club. From our hotel — SKYVIEW Hotel Bangkok — we ordered a Bolt. Due to Bangkok’s usual evening traffic, the ride took nearly 45 minutes, and we arrived just before seven. We were warmly welcomed, handed a snack box, and boarded one of Khana Yacht Charter’s boats shortly afterward.

Khana Yacht Charter operates a fleet of about ten different boats, all with a captain and optional extra staff. The smallest boat can host four people; the largest fits up to a hundred guests. This makes the experience far more personal than the large standard river cruises. You can bring your own drinks and snacks, the service is more attentive, and the whole experience can be tailored to your wishes.

We joined a large group of Thai influencers and their friends on the Navika, an elegant boat with space for around forty passengers. On the upper deck, we were welcomed with a glass of sparkling wine — the perfect start to our Vijit Chao Phraya evening: the river breeze, the warm night air, and the first beams of light reflecting over the water.

Vijit Chao Phraya 2025 – Locations & Accessibility

The festival stretches across a series of iconic locations along the Chao Phraya River. It is even larger than in 2024 — with 14 iconic venues in 2025.

Highlights include:

• Rama VIII Bridge – near Khao San Road
• Siriraj Pier – next to Siriraj Hospital
• Wat Arun – the famous Temple of Dawn
• Wat Kalayanamitr Varamahavihara
• Riverside Old Town – historic riverfront buildings
• ICONSIAM – the luxury mall with perfect river views
• Warehouses and creative hubs along the river
• Memorial Bridge – the main location for the 500- and 1,000-drone shows

You can join the festival from many points, but the easiest access is via:

• Sathorn Pier (BTS Saphan Taksin)

Most light shows and projections run from 18:00 to 22:00. There are typically three main showtimes each night — for example at 18:55, 19:55, and 20:55. On Fridays and Saturdays, there is a spectacular finale featuring a drone show that starts at 20:45.

Light of Siam – The 2025 Festival Concept

The 2025 edition centers around the theme “Light of Siam – Mother of the Nation.” This year, the festival is dedicated to the late Queen Sirikit, who devoted her life to preserving Thai heritage, traditional craftsmanship, and the natural environment. Her influence as a cultural guardian made her a true mother figure to the people of Thailand.

During the festival, you can expect a vibrant mix of:

• light art and color projections
• large-scale mapping on bridges and temples
• laser shows across the river
• drone shows with up to 1,000 drones
• live performances
• traditional dance
• modern Thai design and storytelling

Every location along the river has its own atmosphere and theme, making it feel as if you’re traveling from scene to scene. Each pier, temple, and bridge offers a completely different visual story.

Highlights Along the River

Wat Arun – The Temple of Dawn illuminated

Wat Arun is iconic on any day, but during the festival, the entire stupa becomes a glowing canvas. Video mapping, sweeping light beams, golden details, and patterns inspired by Thai craftsmanship make the temple come alive. Its reflection on the river enhances the magic even more.

Rama VIII Bridge – Lasers across the water

One of the festival’s most spectacular scenes: green, blue, and purple lasers dancing across the river from the Rama VIII Bridge. The bridge itself is beautifully lit — almost like a giant harp being played in the night. It was easily one of our favorite locations.

Old Town Riverside – Stories on buildings

Historic buildings in Old Town serve as canvases for creative projection mapping. Expect moving lotus flowers, murals, animals, leaves, and abstract shapes inspired by Thai culture and nature. It genuinely feels as if each building tells its own story.

ICONSIAM – Modern and busy, but with perfect views

ICONSIAM does not host its own light show, but the pier offers excellent views of multiple projection zones and the drone shows. The mall’s ICONIC Multimedia Water Feature is also worth a look — and the mall itself is a destination.

Phra Phutthayotfa Bridge (Memorial Bridge) – Friday & Saturday drone shows

The bridge is transformed into a light canvas with the theme “Threads of Glory.” On Friday and Saturday evenings, 500 (Fridays) to 1,000 drones (Saturdays) take to the sky above Memorial Bridge, forming animals, flowers, Thai motifs, and portraits set to soft music. It’s one of the true highlights of Vijit Chao Phraya 2025.
