Sampeng Market Bangkok: Chinatown’s Best Wholesale Shopping Alley
The Sampeng Market in Chinatown is a long, narrow alley running alongside Yaowarat Road. Both sides are packed with tiny shops selling just about everything—bags, clothes, shoes, toys, cosmetics, and all kinds of odds and ends. Prices here are much lower than at other markets in Bangkok, and you can usually haggle a bit too! Because there are lots of wholesalers, you can often score discounts if you buy in bulk.
Most of the market is covered, so it’s a good place to visit even if it’s raining. Sampeng Market is really old—probably the first trading center for the original Chinese immigrants. Many old Chinese houses have been turned into small shops, giving the market more character than just a typical shopping spot.

Tip: If you get there before 10 AM—which is smart to avoid the heat—you might see Buddhist monks collecting alms around the market.

While it doesn’t compare to the size and buzz of Yaowarat Road or Sempeng Market, it’s definitely worth checking out if you’re in the area. Open: Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM. How to get there: Take the MRT to Som Yot Station, exit 1. Damrong Sathit Bridge is a 1-minute walk from there.
