Whether it’s your first or tenth time in Bangkok, the Saffron Cruise is an experience to remember and enjoy again.

Where in Bangkok does the Saffron Cruise departs from?
The Saffron Cruise leaves from ICONSIAM, a luxury mall on the Chao Phraya River. Check-in starts around 18:45 at Pier 2, just steps from the mall’s waterfront. Boarding is smooth and organized, helped by friendly Banyan Tree staff. Once on board, the ship slowly passes Bangkok’s famous landmarks during the two-hour trip. You’ll see Wat Arun, the Grand Palace, the golden Rama VIII Bridge, and modern sights like the Millennium Hilton and the glowing ICONSIAM skyline—all from your dinner table.

Architecture & Design
The Saffron Cruise is a 38-meter custom-built boat made just for Banyan Tree Bangkok. It has two large decks and 614 square meters of space, known for its elegant design and fine details. The lower deck has large curved windows with wide views of the Chao Phraya River, while warm wood, artistic ceilings, and soft lighting create a cozy, classy dining atmosphere.
Upstairs, the open-air Moon Deck is inspired by Banyan Tree’s famous Moon Bar, featuring a sleek oval bar and comfortable lounge seating. Its design smoothly mixes traditional Thai style with modern luxury, making it one of Bangkok’s most beautiful dining boats.

Ambiance & Atmosphere
From the moment you board, the Saffron Cruise offers a romantic and elegant atmosphere. The lower deck has a cozy, upscale dining room with soft lighting, stylish table settings, and live acoustic music that adds to the mood. It’s quiet enough for conversation but lively enough to feel festive.
On the Moon Deck, the vibe is more lively and relaxed. Guests enjoy cocktails under the open sky, lounge on comfy sofas, and take in sweeping views of Bangkok’s glowing skyline. The atmosphere is perfectly balanced — elegant yet inviting.
Hospitality & Service
From check-in to disembarkation, the service on the Saffron Cruise is outstanding. Staff are warm, attentive, and eager to make your evening special. Guests are greeted with a mocktail and a smile when boarding. During dinner, the team—like our friendly hostess Khun Kwang—checks in often without being intrusive. They handle requests smoothly and carefully accommodate food allergies or dietary needs. Cleanliness is top-notch on both the Moon Deck and the elegant indoor dining area below.

The Route of the Saffron Cruise
The Saffron Cruise takes a smooth two-hour trip along the Chao Phraya River, showing some of Bangkok’s most stunning riverside sights. Leaving from ICONSIAM’s private pier, the cruise passes busy River City Bangkok and the historic Mandarin Oriental Hotel, known for hosting royalty and global icons. As the sun sets, guests enjoy postcard views of Wat Arun (Temple of Dawn) glowing gold, followed by the grand Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew shining in the distance.

Further on, you’ll pass the elegant Wat Kalayanamit, the striking Santa Cruz Church, and the famous Pak Khlong Talad flower market. The boat then sails under the iconic Rama VIII Bridge, a great spot for photos. On the way back, you’ll see modern landmarks like the Millennium Hilton, the sparkling dome of Lebua at State Tower, and the eye-catching ICONLUXE area. With temples, heritage homes, luxury hotels, and city lights on both sides, the route perfectly blends old charm with modern Bangkok.

Type of kitchen at Saffron Cruise in Bangkok
The Saffron Cruise offers refined Thai cuisine with a modern touch. This isn’t a typical buffet dinner cruise—it’s a carefully crafted culinary journey through Thailand’s rich food heritage. Dishes from the country’s four regions come together, focusing on authenticity, seasonal ingredients, and beautiful presentation.
From bold curries to gently spiced soups and beautifully crafted desserts, every dish tells a story. Traditional Thai flavors are respected but enhanced with modern techniques and global flair, creating a fine-dining experience on the water that’s unmatched in Bangkok.

Chef Renu Homsombat
The culinary magic of the Saffron Cruise is led by Chef Renu Homsombat, the respected Corporate Thai Chef of Banyan Tree Hotels & Resorts. With decades of experience and international praise, Chef Renu offers a refined yet heartfelt take on Thai cuisine.
She has cooked in Michelin-starred restaurants like Schwarzwaldstube in Germany and ECCO in Zurich, and joined top events like the St. Moritz Gourmet Festival and Conde Nast’s culinary showcases. Chef Renu’s dishes honor Thailand’s roots while welcoming innovation—a philosophy seen in the cruise’s changing seasonal menus.

Food
The Saffron Cruise offers a refined four-course meal blending Thai tradition with international flair. Highlights include grilled scallops with pomelo and grain salad, spicy duck salad, and tom yum soup with pearl grouper and royal project mushrooms. For mains, choose slow-cooked Australian short ribs in massaman curry or crispy Ayutthaya river prawns with garlic and chili. Vegetarians have a special menu with pomelo salad, grilled tofu, spicy mushroom soup, and plant-based chicken in pumpkin curry. Desserts like pandan tapioca with young coconut or mango sorbet with spiced syrup finish the meal. Kids’ sets and à la carte options like grilled salmon and shrimp fried rice are also available.

Drinks
The drink menu on board is as creative as the food. Alcohol-free cocktails are bold and refreshing, like the ‘Yahk Rong Dang Dang’ with lemongrass, pomelo, green apple, and strawberry, or the ‘Suwai Mak Mak’ mixing papaya, mango, lychee, and ginger beer. The ‘Jao Chor Malee’ blends coconut, passion fruit, and butterfly pea juice for a vibrant tropical drink. Coffee lovers can enjoy quality Arabica from northern Thailand and strong Robusta from the south. Signature Thai teas are brewed from selected local leaves for an authentic taste. Every drink is made to match the rich flavors of the meal—day or night.

Our Saffron Cruise experience in 2022
From the first moment, stepping onto the Saffron Cruise felt like entering a floating haven of elegance and Thai hospitality. We arrived at Pier 2 by ICONSIAM and were greeted by a friendly team offering refreshing mocktails to help us relax. The ship, glowing in golden light and beautifully designed, waited just steps away. Once aboard, we enjoyed the spacious Moon Deck while final preparations were made below. This rooftop bar offered stunning panoramic views of the Chao Phraya River, sparkling with city lights as dusk fell. The vibe was relaxed yet classy—the perfect start to our culinary journey.

Soon after, we were led to our table on the lower deck—an intimate spot at the front with curved glass windows offering wide views of Bangkok’s riverbanks. As we settled in, our hostess kindly asked about allergies and explained the evening ahead. Our meal started with three dips served with two kinds of crisp rice crackers. This fun yet elegant starter showed the care that would be in every dish.

The first course impressed: a seared scallop with thin lemongrass, chili, lime, and a touch of yuzu—bright and refreshing. Next was pomelo salad with crispy shrimp and tamarind dressing, a perfect mix of textures and sweet-sour flavors. Then came a bold, spicy soup with salmon flakes and eryngii mushrooms—warm and satisfying. Sipping our signature cocktails (Talk to the Palm and Life’s a Beach), we watched landmarks like Wat Arun and Rama VIII Bridge glow like jewels against the night sky.

For the main course, the red curry duck with grilled banana and pineapple stood out—rich, creamy, and full of bold flavors. Served with jasmine and saffron rice, it was Thai comfort food turned fine dining. We also shared crispy pork belly with baby bok choy and holy basil sauce—slightly salty but packed with flavor and crunch.

As the cruise headed back, we returned to the Moon Deck for dessert. Relaxing on a cozy lounge sofa under the open sky, we enjoyed three creative sweets: watermelon with dried fish and shallots (surprisingly addictive), almond-pumpkin crème brûlée, and creamy coconut ice cream in its shell with corn and puffed mung beans. We finished with one last round of cocktails—Paloma Thai and Not from South—a perfect end to an unforgettable evening.

As we docked at ICONSIAM, we were the last to leave. We took a final look at the beautifully lit ship and shared smiles and thanks with the kind staff. The Saffron Cruise gave us more than a meal—it offered a full, immersive experience we’ll remember for a long time.
