Sure, you can book one of the many popular bike tours in Bangkok. They’re great, especially if it’s your first time in the city. But did you know you can also rent a bike and create your own tour? It’s cheap, adventurous, and gives you the freedom to explore Bangkok at your own pace. We did just that—three times! From the old city center to the green lung of Bangkok and the elevated paths of the Green Mile. Here’s everything you need to know about renting a bike in Bangkok and creating your own two-wheeled adventure.

Where to rent a bike in Bangkok

Old Town – Velo Thailand (near Khao San Road)

We rented our bikes at Velo Thailand, a small, friendly shop just ten minutes from Khao San Road. You can rent a bicycle by the hour (50 baht), day (300 baht), or even per week or month. The bikes are well-maintained and suitable for the busy streets of Bangkok. They also offer guided tours, but we decided to go solo.

We set off in the early morning. Cycling the first stretch along a busy road was a bit nerve-racking, but surprisingly, the drivers gave us plenty of space. Once we turned into a side street, everything changed—quiet alleys, local life, and old wooden houses. It felt like a different city.

Our highlight? Crossing the Rama VIII Bridge—bike lane included! We stopped for a drink at Khin Lom Chom, a riverside restaurant with views of the bridge. After that, we followed our instincts through charming neighborhoods before crossing back via the Pinklao Bridge, ending our 3-hour ride near Khao San Road.

Explore Bangkok’s Green Lung – Bang Kachao

Looking for nature and fresh air? Head to Bang Kachao, also called the “green lung” of Bangkok. You’ll find elevated cycle paths through tropical greenery, small villages, and even markets and temples. We did this on our own too!

Getting There:

• Take a taxi or MRT to Khlong Toei Pier (80 baht from Asok).
• Cross the river by boat (10 baht).
• On arrival, rent a bike from M Bike (80 baht/day incl. crossing), grab a free map, and you’re good to go!
• A Bit More Adventurous? Instead of a taxi, we took the local bus no. 47 from Khao San Road to Khlong Toei. No aircon, lots of stops—but just 13 baht for two people! A fun sightseeing tour on its own

If you prefer to join a guided tour, there is this tour that also explores the green lung.

What to see:

• Narrow village paths, temples, and lots of monitor lizards along the way!
• Sri Nakhon Khuean Khan Park: A shady, beautiful park with walking trails, a bird tower, and lots of greenery.
• BangKachaoland Market and Bang Nam Phueng Floating Market (weekends only).

Where to eat in the Green Lung:

• Punkinfare Bike & Café – Amazing pastries and cute design.
• Coffee Toys – Easy to find thanks to Spiderman on the roof.
• Pluem Noodles House Soi 23 – Local Thai food and Thai hot pot.
• Rose Apple – Modern and relaxed with Thai and Western dishes.

Sleeping in the Green Lung?

Want to slow down even more? Spend the night! Good options include:

• Baan Makham – Stylish wooden bungalows on stilts.
• Lilliput Riverside – A charming riverside homestay.

The Green Mile – A short but fun bike path

If you’re near Lumphini Park, don’t miss the Green Mile—a short but enjoyable cycling and walking trail that connects Lumphini Park with Benjakitti Park. You can rent bikes at Benjakitti Park (around 40 baht/hour). It’s a great way to escape traffic without leaving the city center.
