Madura Rooftop Bangkok: Where fire, rhythm and the Bangkok skyline come together

We haven’t been ourselves yet, but since the opening in May 2026 the stories have been reaching us from friends and contacts returning from Bangkok or living there. Madura Rooftop Bangkok is, in a few words, the warmth of Latin America and the energy of Miami, fused together above the Sukhumvit skyline, with wonderful food rolling out of an open-flame kitchen on the 32nd floor of one of our absolute favourite hotels in the EM District, also known as the Phrom Phong area of Bangkok.

Madura (pronounced Ma-Du-Ra) is the successor to the legendary MOJJO Rooftop Lounge & Bar, which occupied the same spot for years and became iconic for its Cuban atmosphere and rum-heavy cocktails. From February 2026, the venue closed its doors for a full renovation. What emerged is no quick facelift,  it’s an entirely new sky bar & elevated dining concept. Bangkok’s first dedicated rooftop fire grill, built on four pillars of Latin American culture: the fire of Argentina, the bold flavours of Mexico, the soul of Cuba and the rhythm of Colombia, brought together with the charm and glamour of Miami.

Where in Bangkok is Madura Rooftop Bangkok located?

Madura is located on the 32nd floor of Skyview Hotel Bangkok, on Sukhumvit Soi 24, in the heart of the EM District. This is one of the most accessible corners of Bangkok. BTS station Phrom Phong is a three-minute walk away, and those travelling by MRT can alight at Sukhumvit station and walk there in twenty minutes. Not in the mood to walk? Take the BTS to Asok station and hop off one stop later at Phrom Phong. By taxi, simply say: Sukhumvit Soi 24, Skyview Hotel.

Once inside, walk through the hotel lobby, step into the lift and press 32. A receptionist greets you, asks whether you have a reservation and shows you to your table. Quick, smooth and effortless.

Architecture & (interior) design

Madura is divided across two very different spaces, each with its own character and energy.

Lucero is the intimate indoor lounge, designed as a tribute to the refined side of Miami’s iconic nightlife. Think velvet accents, warmly toned walls and a central bar bathed in golden amber light. The music carries you along without drowning out conversation. Lucero is where the evening begins.

LUNA is where the evening truly takes off. The outdoor terrace offers unobstructed views across the Sukhumvit skyline: a sea of high-rises that glitters into the distance come nightfall, the BTS flashing past like a streak of light, and far below, a city that never stops moving. The seating layout is well considered — some spots look straight out over the skyline, others sit closer to the railing for a more intimate feel. And then there is the open fire kitchen, positioned centrally and fully visible to guests. The fire is not background decoration. It is part of the experience.

Madura’s atmosphere and crowd

Music in the air, heat rising from the fire, drinks that leave you wanting more. One round becomes two, and before you know it the table gives way to the bar. That is simply how Madura works.

Early in the evening, around sunset between half past five and seven, LUNA is a panoramic stage. The city slowly shifts from orange to amber, the music sits at a level where good conversation flows easily. After nine o’clock the atmosphere changes. The DJ picks up the pace, the volume nudges up a touch, and the terrace fills with a colourful crowd: Bangkok expats, Thai food lovers who also know how to have a proper night out, and international travellers staying at the hotel or not — all there for the same reason: great food, great cocktails, and a view they will not forget in a hurry.

Madura’s musical signature is Afro-beats combined with deep Latin rhythms and NYC hip-hop. No heavy basslines that make conversation impossible, but a sound that feels exactly right alongside open fire and a night-time skyline. Smart casual is the unwritten dress code, and the crowd simply follows it.

Service & Hospitality

Having visited MOJJO for years, we know that the team has largely stayed the same — and that is reassuring. These people know exactly what they are doing when it comes to service and hospitality. The floor manager, a highly professional lady from France, brings fiery passion and genuine warmth to every shift alongside the Madura team. Guests feel that difference.

Behind the bar are mixologists who actively listen to what you want. Tell them your flavour direction in a couple of words and they take it from there. No menu needed, no lengthy deliberation. The same goes for the rest of the team: questions, dietary preferences, or simply wanting a recommendation? Just say so. They will always come back with a suggestion or an alternative that works. That has not changed with the reopening as Madura, and it may well be the best news of all. We can’t wait to go back.

Drinks @ Madura Rooftop Bangkok

Madura’s drinks programme is Miami drinking culture, not your typical hotel bar. Cocktails are tropical and citrus-driven, layered with herbs, light fermentation and a touch of technique that only a proper mixologist can pull off. The menu features signature creations alongside classics with a Latin twist, complemented by a well-curated selection of world wines and premium spirits. Cocktail prices range from 380 to 520 THB.

Tell the bartender in a few words what you are after — citrus or smoke, fresh or spirit-forward, herby or sweet — and they will run with it. That personalised approach is something you rarely encounter at a rooftop bar in Bangkok anymore.

Food @ Madura Rooftop Bangkok

The food at Madura is bold, social and made to share, with a clear Latin American focus. The Fire Grill serves meat and seafood: charcoal meats, barbacoa rich with depth and smoke, alongside ceviche and tostadas that are bright and fresh. Shared plates make it all the more lively and festive at the table. Call it high-quality, high-energy dining. A shared grill selection for two typically runs between 600 and 1,200 THB depending on your choices. An evening for two with cocktails and food averages out at around 2,500 to 3,500 THB including service charge.

Some tips and fun facts

• Come around sunset, between 17:30 and 19:00. The light is at its best, the temperature pleasant and the tables not yet fully occupied.
• Book ahead via Tablecheck — the link is on the Skyview Hotel website. For weekends and special occasions, this is not a suggestion but a necessity.
• Dress smart casual: no flip-flops, no sportswear or athletic vests for men. A summer dress or smart trousers with a shirt works perfectly. Lucero has a slightly more polished energy, though it never feels stiff.
• Give the bartender a flavour direction in two words and let them handle the rest. It is by far the best way to experience Madura.
• Coming for a birthday or a special occasion? Mention it when you book. The team loves getting involved and will happily surprise you.
• The best spot for photos is the outer railing of LUNA, facing north-west, for the strongest composition of the city at night.
• Ask for Khun Marjo when you are there. She knows every corner of Madura.
• The name Madura was not chosen at random. In the Latin-Spanish context, madura means something that has reached its full flavour: ripe, powerful and complete. That fits perfectly with a concept where fire and culture meet on the rooftop of Bangkok.
• MOJJO, the predecessor in this same spot, was in its prime one of the few bars in Bangkok where you could smoke a Cuban cigar while the bartender crafted a rum creation based on your personality. That idea — that a bar needs to know something about you to serve you well — lives on in Madura.
• The four Latin American cultures that inspire Madura are not chosen at random: Argentina for fire and premium meat, Mexico for bold flavours and acidity, Cuba for rhythm and rum, Colombia for movement and colour. Together they create a flavour palette richer than any single country could offer.
