Le Du Kaan, Bangkok
Le Du Kaan is the ultimate rooftop experience in Bangkok! Enjoy a spectacular 360° view, a Michelin chef serving modern Thai dishes, and a stylish atmosphere that perfectly blends together.
Located on the 56th floor of The Empire, this sky bar combines top-quality food, thoughtful cocktails, and excellent service. Whether you’re coming for a romantic dinner or a special night out with top cocktails, Le Du Kaan promises an unforgettable experience in the heart of Bangkok.

Le Du Kaan: Luxury Rooftop Restaurant with Spectacular Views, Michelin Chef, and Modern Thai Cuisine
Le Du Kaan is 100% our favorite sky bar in Bangkok, and that’s after several visits, including two times with an extensive and fantastic dinner! Each visit confirms the same: this is one of the few places in the city where the view, Thai cuisine, cocktails, and service are all on the same level.
You step out of the elevator on the 56th floor of The Empire in Sathorn, and after a few minutes, you’re immediately looking out over the Bangkok skyline. On one side, the Chao Phraya River; on the other, the Mahanakhon Tower; and above all, the city stretching out in all directions. Welcome to the world’s first Thai rooftop restaurant, led by Michelin-star chef Thitid ‘Ton’ Tassanakajohn.

Where in Bangkok is Le Du Kaan situated?
Le Du Kaan is located on the 56th floor of The Empire, a distinctive office building directly connected to BTS Chong Nonsi Station. From there, it’s just a five-minute walk to the restaurant. If you’re traveling by Grab, Bolt, or taxi, simply say “The Empire, Sathorn,” and every driver will know where to go.
On the same floor, you’ll also find % Arabica and Nobu Bangkok, making it easy to plan a combo night: start with a coffee at % Arabica, visit Le Du Kaan for dinner and drinks, and finish at Nobu for a final drink—or the other way around. If you come by sky train, don’t forget to snap some stylish Instagram photos at the iconic Chong Nonsi Bridge!

Did you know?
Architecture en (interior) design
Le Du Kaan is divided into four areas: a lounge dining area, a Thai Bar for cocktails and mocktails, a main dining room with artwork inspired by the Chao Phraya, and the 835 m² open-air Sky Bar.
The interior features golden and wooden accents throughout, warm amber lighting, and intricate patterned floor tiles. It feels spacious but not impersonal, with each area having its own unique atmosphere.
The real showpiece is the Sky Bar: central tables that seem to float above a water feature, surrounded by plants, soft lighting, and the Mahanakhon Tower as a backdrop. On good evenings, a gentle breeze blows, making the Bangkok heat perfectly pleasant.
Hospitality and service
The welcome starts downstairs, where you are guided to the elevators. Upstairs, the service is attentive and well-trained, without being overly formal. Questions about the menu are answered enthusiastically, and wine suggestions come at just the right moment.
Le Du Kaan operates by reservation only—note, walk-ins are really not an option here! The atmosphere is relaxed and controlled; everyone is clearly there with intention. The very busy Chef Ton often visits Le Du Kaan himself, which visibly reflects the team’s dedication.

Tip!
Reserve well in advance, especially during the high season (November–February) and on weekends. When booking, be sure to explicitly request an outdoor table or one of the ‘floating’ tables above the water feature.

Atmosphere and its guests
Early in the evening, around sunset, the terrace was a bit quieter during our second visit. Later, after nine o’clock, the atmosphere heats up and it fills up completely. A DJ plays modern tracks, with music loud enough to create ambiance but soft enough for easy conversation. The crowd is a mix of Bangkokians, expats, and international travelers. Think mainly couples looking for a romantic evening or large groups celebrating something special. A visit to Le Du Kaan is truly something special!
The dress code is smart casual: no flip-flops, but no ties or long pants required either (a neat pair of shorts is fine).

What can you expect from the food and drinks at Le Du Kaan in Bangkok?
Le Du Kaan offers an à la carte menu focused on seasonal, locally sourced ingredients from Thailand’s four regions: North, Northeast, Central, and South. These come directly from Thai farmers and fishermen, with sustainability as a key principle. The menu changes with the seasons, but its structure remains the same: fresh starters to begin, rich sharing dishes for the main course, and light desserts to finish.
Portions are larger than at sister restaurant Le Du and are explicitly meant for sharing. For two to three people, ordering four to five dishes together is best—it provides the most variety and a well-balanced meal progression.
Signature dishes on the menu include Somtum Puunim (papaya salad with softshell crab), Khao Phad Le Du Kaan (signature fried rice with Phuket lobster and seafood), Puu Phong Karee (softshell crab in yellow curry), and Kluay Buad Chee as dessert. The seasonal menu always features new dishes. The winter menu, for example, included fried sticky rice with grilled fish and Mok Nuer, wagyu cheek wrapped in banana leaf. It’s always worth asking what’s on the seasonal menu.

Beverages
The drinks menu follows the same philosophy as the food: local, thoughtful, and tailored to Thai flavors. The cocktails draw from Thailand’s four regions and combine local spirits—including Thai rice spirits and Mekhong rum—with tropical fruits, fresh herbs, and spices. Premium labels like Monkey 47 gin are also available, along with mezcal and tequila options for those who prefer something stronger.
The wine list is curated by Chef Ton himself, a certified sommelier. It focuses on organic, sustainable, and biodynamic wines: champagne and Burgundy whites for lighter dishes, and robust Italian and Spanish reds for richer main courses. Rare vintages are available upon request.
For non-drinkers, there are well-crafted mocktails and Thai herbal infusions. Definitely not an afterthought, but serious alternatives that complement the food perfectly.

Our experiences over the years
Very first visit in 2024
Our first visit was in November 2024, two months after opening. We were impressed by both the view and the food. Chef Ton invited us for a tasting menu: each dish was a masterpiece, perfectly paired with creative cocktails that enhanced the flavors.

We started with several delicious starters. Main courses included the delightful Phad Thai Goong (fried noodles with spicy tamarind sauce and sweet banana shrimp), Pla Sa Tia (fish served with a rich aromatic broth from a teapot), and a Thai pasta dish (fusion at its best!). To finish, we enjoyed three excellent desserts.
Our visit after Nobu, early 2025
After our dinner at the famous Japanese restaurant Nobu Bangkok, we decided to go one floor down for a few drinks. It wasn’t planned, just a spontaneous visit because we couldn’t resist going to our favorite rooftop bar in Bangkok! The mixologists, the atmosphere, the view—everything here is simply amazing! It was the perfect ending to a perfect evening. That says it all.

In 2025 with friends from the Netherlands
This time, we brought friends along after a lovely dinner by the Chao Phraya River with views of Wat Arun. We told them about our favorite rooftop bar in Bangkok and said, “You know what? Let’s just take a taxi and go there for a drink!” And sure enough, half an hour later we were standing on the 56th floor, glowing with a delicious cocktail in hand, fully enjoying the view! We felt completely at home, which is actually the biggest compliment for a place of this size.

So far, our latest, but not last, visit in January 2026
We were curious to see if Le Du Kaan had maintained its quality after more than a year. The answer was quickly clear: yes, absolutely. The evening started with two signature cocktails. The Chowpai Sunset opened light and easy to drink, highball-style, fresh, perfect to begin with. It was a bit too floral for my taste; the elderflower slightly dominated.

The Mekong River quickly made up for it: ginger beer as the base, with a basil and dill cordial that gives it a spicy, almost green character. Fresh, slightly spicy, and simply excellent with the food.

The starters set the tone with the Yum Phon La Mai: a fruit salad with watermelon granita, strawberry, pomelo, pomegranate, and cashew nuts. Sweet and savory at the same time, with a distinct fish sauce umami. It takes a moment to get used to, but after a few bites, you understand exactly what it does.

Next came the Phla Pla, a ceviche of Andaman trevally, neatly sliced and beautifully presented with microgreens, colorful cherry tomatoes, and lemongrass. The passion fruit dressing balances sour and sweet well, but this is no subtle dish: Thai spicy, full of energy. It was immediately one of the strongest plates of the evening.

Then the main courses… and suddenly the table was full. The Pla Sa Tia, grouper served with ginger broth poured at the table, was the calm point: buttery soft meat, elegant broth, just right amid all the bolder flavors. The Moo Krob provided the contrast: crispy pork belly, audibly crunchy, with pickled ginger and apple cutting through the fat with its freshness.
Tip!
Order the pad krapao moo krob kai dao at a restaurant if you see it on the menu—it’s that delicious!

The Khao Phad Le Du Kaan, the signature fried rice with Phuket lobster, snapper, squid, and scallop, was the dish everyone kept going back for. The Puu Phong Karee, softshell crab in yellow curry, paired with the fried rice and a scoop of nam prik, might have been the best combination of the evening!

And then the Keaw Wan Neua: wagyu cheek so tender you barely need to chew, in green curry with eggplant. This is the dish that naturally makes you slow down to savor every bite even more.

The desserts ended the evening on a high note. The Kluay Buad Chee was creamy, crispy, warm, and fresh all at once. A well-deserved classic staple!

The second dessert from our tasting with chef Ton. He let us try dishes that were yet to be added to the menu. Is this beautiful chocolate and orange artwork already on the menu?

The La Roselle with roselle sorbet and homemade meringue was the elegant finale. And the small sweet-and-sour ice cream that followed did exactly what it was supposed to do: end the evening fresh and light.

After all those visits, we’re sure: Le Du Kaan doesn’t disappoint. The quality stays consistent, the kitchen remains sharp, and the atmosphere is just right. Great news for everyone who still needs to come. And for us too, because we will definitely return!
