Architecture & Design
Supanniga Eating Room Tha Tien’s design blends heritage and elegance. Located in a restored shophouse, it reflects the family’s Isaan roots. Traditional items like mai fuem (weaving tools) and kabom (for drying sticky rice) are part of the decor. The two-story space has an air-conditioned ground floor with warm wood and Thai details, and a rooftop terrace with wide river views. A mural of the “Goddess of Supanniga” decorates the top floor, adding an artistic, cultural touch. Even the logo and yellow colors come from the Supanniga flower in Khun Yai’s Khon Kaen garden.

Ambiance & Atmosphere
The atmosphere is relaxed and elegant, with a strong feeling of home. Guests, both Thai and international, come for quiet lunches, romantic dinners, and celebrations. At sunset, the rooftop shines with golden light over the river and Wat Arun. Inside, soft lighting and calm colors create a cozy, elegant space that feels like dining in a family home.

Service & Hospitality
The service at Supanniga Eating Room is warm, professional, and truly Thai. Staff know the menu well and gladly recommend dishes or drinks. They speak fluent English and stay attentive even when busy. The clean, well-kept space shows the same care as the food.

What type of kitchen do they have at Supanniga Eating Room?
Supanniga Eating Room serves Eastern Thai food, especially recipes from Trat and Isaan. The dishes keep their original flavors, using fresh seafood, local herbs, and slow-cooked methods. This isn’t modern fusion or fancy twists—it’s genuine Thai food made with care and skill.

Khunyai Somsri Chantra
Supanniga’s kitchen is led not by a celebrity chef but by Khunyai Somsri Chantra, a beloved family matriarch. Born in Trat and later living in Khon Kaen, she cooked tirelessly for her grandchildren and their friends. Even as her eyesight failed, she cooked by sound and smell. Her legacy continues with a kitchen team that honors her methods and keeps her original recipes alive with care.
The menu

The menu honors Khunyai’s cooking. Starters include Pu Jah (steamed crabmeat and pork in crab shells), Mieng Yong (cha plu leaf bites with sweet coconut, peanuts, and dried pork), and the Supanniga Appetizer Platter with classic dishes. Main courses like Moo Cha Muang (pork stew with cha-muang leaves), Gaeng Crab Meat Bai Cha Plu, and Sen Chan Pad Pu (crab fried noodles) combine skill and nostalgia. Desserts feature Mango Sticky Rice, Bua Loy (pumpkin and taro balls in coconut milk), and Supanniga Coconut Rice Cakes, a fun nod to Thai street food.

The drinks menu is as carefully chosen as the food. Signature cocktails like the Vertical Recline (lemongrass in pineapple juice) and Mango on the Rock (with Mekhong and Islay whisky) showcase Thai flavors with creativity. There’s a good wine list, Thai craft beers, and great non-alcoholic options like Thai iced tea, fresh fruit juices, and mocktails such as the Virgin Watermelon Mojito. Tea lovers can enjoy Supanniga’s own blends, including oolong, lemongrass, jasmine, and more.

Our visit at Supanniga Eating Room Tha Tien in January 2025
We’ve known Supanniga for a while, first enjoying their hospitality on the Supanniga Cruise in 2019, just before Covid. The cruise is no longer running, but thankfully, Supanniga’s lovely riverside restaurants, like the one at Tha Tien by the Chao Phraya River, are still going strong.

When friends from the Netherlands visited, we didn’t hesitate—dinner at Supanniga was perfect and exceeded all expectations! Supanniga is now one of our favorite Thai restaurants in Bangkok. Later, we ended the cozy night with cocktails at Le Du Kaan, our favorite rooftop bar in the city.
Sitting on the terrace with Wat Arun glowing across the river, we began with Supanniga’s signature cocktails—a Pineapple Lychee Mojito, refreshing Vanilla Mint, and exotic Mango on the Rock. Whether for dinner or just drinks, Supanniga offers the perfect setting to relax and enjoy.

To start, we ordered the Supanniga Appetizer Platter—three classic bites: Ma Hor, Mieng Yong, and Khaotang Namprik Kakmoo. Ma Hor has juicy orange slices topped with savory minced pork and peanuts—a sweet and salty mix. Mieng Yong wraps dried pork and sweet roasted coconut in cha plu leaves, offering a burst of texture and flavor. Khaotang Namprik Kakmoo features crispy rice crackers with Khun Yai’s famous chili pork crackling dip for a satisfying crunch.

For mains, we shared several dishes. The Kai Yok Song stood out—a well-made omelet filled with crab meat, prawns, basil, and a touch of chili, balanced by Koh Chang’s shrimp paste. The Gaeng Bai Cha Plu was a rich, aromatic red curry with crab meat and bai cha plu leaves. We also tried Moo Cha Muang, a pork belly stew with cha muang leaves that added a tangy twist to the tender meat.
Of course, we had the Gaeng Massaman Gai—a slow-cooked massaman curry with chicken, potatoes, and peanuts in a rich sauce. The Isan Steak (pork), grilled and served with sticky rice and spicy jaew sauce, brought hearty Isaan flavors. We finished with Ka Lum Tod Nam Pla—crispy fried cabbage topped with premium fish sauce from Trad—and a generous serving of fragrant jasmine rice.

Dessert was a treat! We shared the iconic Mango Sticky Rice—ripe mango slices over warm, sweet sticky rice, topped with creamy coconut milk. We also ordered Supanniga Coconut Rice Cake (Kanom Krok)—crispy outside, soft and creamy inside, just how we like it.

To end the evening, we enjoyed more cocktails—the rich Whitewash Coco, vibrant Farang Chae Buay with guava and passionfruit, and refreshing Watermelon Mojito. Then we continued the night at Le Du Kaan and finished at Nobu’s rooftop at The Empire—two great spots to close a fantastic night.

What makes this experience even more special is that the founder of Supanniga is a close friend. Knowing their passion makes us love the restaurant even more. It’s not just the delicious food or beautiful view—it’s the heart and heritage in every bite. Supanniga Eating Room Tha Tien truly captures the soul of Thai cuisine, and we can’t wait to return!
