Massilia Italian Restaurant 2026 Review: Possibly the best Neapolitan pizza in Bangkok
When a pizzeria receives recognition from the prestigious 50 Top Pizza guide as one of the world’s best, you simply have to go. Massilia Italian Restaurant in Bangkok earned this accolade — not just once, but multiple years in a row.
For us, it was the perfect excuse to test this top-tier Neapolitan pizzeria ourselves during our stay in Bangkok in early 2026. The restaurant is located a stone’s throw from luxury hotels like The Okura Prestige and Park Hyatt, serving internationally acclaimed artisanal wood-fired pizzas. But does Massilia live up to its reputation? YES, absolutely!

Location and first impressions at Massilia
Massilia is easily accessible from BTS Ploen Chit station — just a five-minute walk through a quiet side street. Upon entering, two imposing pizza ovens immediately catch your eye, blazing with fiery passion in the center of the restaurant. This is where the magic happens, where quite possibly the best pizzas in Thailand are made.
The restaurant features both a spacious terrace and a large indoor dining room. Inside, vibrant azure tones dominate, with wooden chandeliers and large candelabras creating a warm Italian atmosphere. Strategically placed mirrors on the walls make the space appear larger than it actually is.
Italian music plays in the background — just loud enough to create ambiance without being intrusive. After 8:00 PM, the place really gets busy; the restaurant buzzes with energy and life. We chose the terrace, where we could enjoy the lively atmosphere inside in peace while savoring what might just be the best pizza in Thailand.

The Kitchen: Napolitan Tradition
Massilia’s menu focuses entirely on Neapolitan wood-fired pizzas, baked in two large ovens prominently positioned and visible from both the dining room and terrace. Multiple pizzaiolos work simultaneously on rolling dough, topping pizzas, and managing the baking process — the professional team is a well-oiled machine ensuring consistent quality at an impressive pace.
The dough rises fresh daily and is expertly rolled to the perfect thickness. The ovens burn at high temperatures, creating those characteristic leopard spots on the crust and a lightly smoked flavor that only authentic wood-fired pizzas possess.
Beyond pizzas, the menu also features classic antipasti, fresh salads, and handmade pastas. The wine list is extensive, containing both Italian and international wines with options for every budget. Beer, cocktails, and soft drinks are naturally available as well.

Our experience in January 2026
The hospitality was immediately noticeable during our visit — everyone was highly attentive and professional. This clearly started from the top, as the Italian manager was exceptionally skilled at his craft and operated with genuine passion.
During my many childhood visits to Italy, there was one snack I particularly enjoyed: suppli, a crispy croquette-like treat with rice, tomato, and cheese that pulls into long strings when you bite into it. I wanted to relive that childhood memory, so we ordered the suppli, potato croquettes, and a generous plate of prosciutto with burrata. These three appetizers were perfect for sharing!

Starters
Suppli
These deep-fried risotto balls contain creamy Carnaroli rice mixed with tomato sauce and fior di latte mozzarella. Breaded with a crispy layer of breadcrumbs and finished with 24-month aged Parmigiano Reggiano.
When cut open, the mozzarella pulls into long strings — exactly as it should. The exterior is golden brown and crispy, the interior soft and savory. An Italian classic that Massilia executes almost perfectly.
Crocchette di Patate
House-made potato croquettes that far exceed the average croquette. The filling is velvety smooth, made from creamed potatoes with fresh parsley and that delicious 24-month-old Parmigiano. The exterior cracks satisfyingly between your teeth while the interior nearly melts on your tongue.
Burrata Caprese Salad
A generous 250-gram burrata from Puglia forms the heart of this salad. The cheese is exactly as it should be: creamy, soft, and full of flavor. Cherry tomatoes provide freshness, Italian basil adds aroma, and a generous portion of thin prosciutto slices contribute a subtle salty bite. Simple yet balanced, and perfect for sharing!
Masslilia’s atmosphere and service

Meanwhile, the restaurant filled up and pizzas literally flew out of the oven. The pace was high but never chaotic. An interesting detail we noticed was the truffle pizza being finished tableside. It was topped with fresh truffle shaved live at the table. Visibly high quality and certainly not stingy. That moment, combined with the aroma, makes the dish instantly special. Love truffle and pizza? Massilia Italian Restaurant is the place to be!
The service remained sharp despite the crowds. Plates were promptly cleared, the table kept tidy, and wine correctly poured. What stood out: the spicy olive oil that comes standard on each table was exceptionally flavorful, nicely spicy, and exactly the kind of detail that gives your pizza that extra kick.
Finally, pizza time — and of course, the award-winning “Pizza of the Year 2025” couldn’t be missed! For our second pizza, we ordered two different halves, a nice option since there’s so much deliciousness on Massilia’s Bangkok menu!

Pizza!
Pizza of the Year 2025 — Norma Not Normal
The award-winning pizza that earned Massilia the title ‘Pizza of the Year’ in Asia in 2025 — and you can taste it. This modern interpretation of the Sicilian classic is a masterpiece of textures and flavors.
The fior di latte mozzarella base is covered with velvety smooth eggplant purée and super-crispy deep-fried eggplant chips. Sun-dried tomatoes provide sweet-salty intensity, aged ricotta brings creaminess, and fresh basil with olive oil binds everything together.
The combination of creamy-crispy-sweet-savory works exceptionally well. The crust has those characteristic charred black spots and an airy, chewy rim. A textbook example of Neapolitan pizza.

Margherita & Provola e Zucchine (Half & Half)
We ordered a half-and-half pizza at Massilia to try both classic and creative options—a smart choice.
The Margherita half showed the pizzeria’s quality: sweet, tangy San Marzano tomato sauce, soft Fior di latte mozzarella from Agerola, fresh basil, and olive oil on an airy, flavorful dough. Simple and delicious!
The Provola e Zucchine half brought back childhood memories with smoky provola cheese, creamy fior di latte, zucchini sauce, crispy zucchini chips, roasted cherry tomatoes, basil, and olive oil. A perfect mix of textures and flavors.
Massilia balances tradition and creativity perfectly, delivering authentic Neapolitan pizza right here in Thailand!

Delivery some weeks later: We couldn’t resist a second round
On our second-to-last evening in Bangkok, we couldn’t resist ordering Massilia delivery. When pizza is this good, one time pizza simply isn’t enough. We ordered via Grab, simple, fast and so delicious!
We started again with the Crocchette di Patate, though we have to note: these are best enjoyed fresh at the restaurant. Delivered, they lose some of that satisfying crunch, though the creamy interior remains delicious.
Half Prosciutto Cotto & Half Prosciutto e Fichi
The Prosciutto Cotto half featured fior di latte mozzarella, Italian cooked ham, San Marzano tomato sauce, basil, and olive oil. A straightforward, solid pizza with quality cold cuts.
But the Prosciutto e Fichi half was the star — our top recommendation! 24-month aged Parma ham, fior di latte mozzarella, fresh rocket, sweet figs, and olive oil. The combination of salty prosciutto with sweet figs is classic Italian magic, and Massilia nails the balance perfectly. The rocket adds a peppery freshness that cuts through the richness beautifully.

Half French Cheeses & Half Margherita
The French Cheeses pizza was an adventure: Saint-Marcellin, la tomme, blue d’Auvergne, fior di latte mozzarella, baked cherry tomatoes, black pepper, basil, and Italian pancetta. Bold, rich, and intensely cheesy — perfect for cheese lovers willing to go beyond tradition.
The Margherita half remained our reliable baseline: pure, simple, perfectly executed.
Lasagna
We also tried the house-made baked lasagna with family farm pork and beef mince. Layers of pasta, rich meat ragù, béchamel, and cheese baked to golden perfection. Comforting, hearty, and authentically Italian. Proof that Massilia’s kitchen excels beyond just pizza.

Napoli Cheesecake — Chef’s Family Recipe
Traditional Neapolitan pastiera cheesecake with ricotta cheese and cooked wheat. We ordered it without the vanilla ice cream (not possible for delivery), but it didn’t matter — the cake stood perfectly on its own. Dense, creamy, subtly sweet with a unique texture from the wheat grains. A proper Neapolitan ending.
Sbriciolata al Caffè
Crumb coffee cake that was wonderfully rustic. Buttery, crumbly layers with intense coffee flavor. Simple but satisfying — the kind of dessert that pairs perfectly with an espresso.
Even delivered to our condo, Massilia’s quality shone through. The pizzas traveled well, arriving hot with crusts that maintained their texture. It says something when you order delivery from a restaurant you’ve already reviewed — that’s the ultimate endorsement.

Final Verdict
It’s no coincidence that Massilia Pizzeria is widely praised in international rankings. In 2025, the restaurant achieved #22 in the global 50 Top Pizza ranking, the highest placement ever for a pizzeria in Thailand. Additionally, Massilia was named Best Pizzeria in Thailand and 4th best in Asia. The Norma Not Normal pizza received the title Pizza of the Year Asia-Pacific 2025.
We especially appreciate the quality of the pizzas, the kitchen’s speed, the typical Italian energetic atmosphere, and the fair pricing — all making a visit absolutely worthwhile! We’re definitely certain we’ll be eating pizza at Massilia regularly!
