Our unforgettable JHOL experience in January 2025 – We can’t wait to return!
Our meal at JHOL began with a great selection of cocktails that set the perfect tone. The bartenders’ skill showed in the creative, balanced flavors. Every drink was a delight, and we’re sure you’ll enjoy them too! We started and ended our journey through India with cocktails—what a night! For us, JHOL is definitely one of the best Indian restaurants in Thailand.

On our first visit to JHOL, the staff recommended ‘The Culinary Journey,’ a tasting menu that captures the heart of coastal Indian cuisine. It highlights India’s 7,516-kilometer coastline across nine states: Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and West Bengal. Each region has a rich food heritage shaped by centuries of tradition and coastal flavors.
Our evening began with three vibrant appetizers: Bombay Bhel with avocado and longan, Calicut Pepper Crab Toast with coconut shoot pachadi, and Kolkata Dim’er Devil with quail egg and kasundi onion jam. We added caviar to the Dim’er Devil, making it an indulgent treat.

Next, we got a surprise—the Masala Muska Bun, not on the menu but offered after Ilonka shared her love for bread. This soft, buttery bun came with two signature butters: spicy Pav Bhaji and fragrant Curry Leaf. This unexpected treat became a highlight of our evening!

Next, we enjoyed Berhampur Fried Chicken Wings served with crisp apple fennel slaw and spicy potato dip. The mix of crunchy, savory, and mild spice was perfect. We highly recommend this dish to anyone visiting JHOL.
We chose wine pairings for our meal, starting with the 2022 Raventós i Blanc Blanc de Blancs, a sparkling wine from Catalonia, Spain. Made from Xarel·lo, Macabeo, Parellada, and a bit of Malvasia de Sitges, this biodynamic wine offered bright citrus, white blossoms, and subtle minerality. Its fine bubbles and crisp acidity paired perfectly with the next dish—the Mini Appam with Ghee Roast Min Buri Mutton and Gongura. The tender, flavorful mutton matched the wine’s freshness beautifully.
An unexpected moment added a special touch to our evening. A nearby diner, a famous Indian chef from Tokyo, was enjoying his meal. When we asked about his dish, he recommended the Inji Puli Pork Ribs: Baby Back Ribs with Tamarind, Ginger, and Jaggery. He even shared a taste with us. The ribs were sweet, sticky, and full of flavor—a dish we’ll definitely order next time!
Our second wine was a 2021 Hofgut Falkenstein Niedermenniger Im Kleinschock Riesling Kabinett from Mosel, Germany. Known for bright acidity and delicate apple and lime notes, it paired perfectly with Patrani Machi: Banana Leaf Steamed Seabass, Muli Nu Raita, and Salli. The wine’s freshness matched the light fish dish, followed by a palate cleanser—a refreshing break in our flavorful journey.

As our meal continued, we enjoyed “The Feast,” four unique mains celebrating India’s coastal cuisine. First was Kodi Sherva, an Andhra-style chicken broth, rich and aromatic with warm spices. Next came Coorgi Pandi Curry, tender pork belly in a flavorful sauce, balanced with Gotu Kola Kosambari and Pathri. Then the Alleppey Fish Curry, a lively Kerala dish with tender fish in tangy coconut curry, served with Kappa and Matta Rice. Finally, the Chettinad Lamb Chop with soft Kalappam stood out for its perfectly spiced, tender meat—a true taste of Chettinad.
To match these bold flavors, we had a glass of Fleurie Domaine de Fa, a light and elegant red from Beaujolais, France. Its soft tannins and berry notes paired well with the rich Indian dishes, showing JHOL’s careful wine choices.
To end our feast, we enjoyed two of JHOL’s creative desserts! The Tender Coconut Payasam 2.0 mixed textures and flavors—jaggery sesame snap added crunch, while mango jelly and sea salt ice cream offered a delightful contrast. The Parsi Mawa Cake was just as rich, served with custard, berry coulis, and caramelized milk ice cream, balancing sweetness and creaminess. We finished with a selection of Petite Fours—delicate bites that perfectly closed this memorable meal.

Looking back on our experience at JHOL, it was more than a meal—it was a journey through India’s coastal heritage, skillfully crafted and creatively presented. Each dish told a story, mixing traditional flavors with modern touches, while the perfect wine pairings enhanced every course. Dining at JHOL is an unforgettable dive into India’s vibrant food scene, right in Bangkok’s heart.
