Our festive first Christmas Night at El Gaucho on Soi 19
We celebrated Christmas Day 2024 with a festive dinner on El Gaucho’s terrace in Bangkok. A few weeks earlier, after staying at The Westin Grande Sukhumvit across the street, we had already decided, “That’s where we’ll eat on Christmas!”—and it was an excellent choice.
As we settled at our table on a warm Bangkok evening, a wooden board arrived with fresh, crusty bread, warm and soft herb-whipped butter full of garlic flavor. There was also bright chimichurri, packed with fresh herbs, garlic, olive oil, and vinegar, plus a mellow roasted garlic bulb for spreading. It felt like a true celebration start. We toasted the evening with deep red wine and a classic margarita with a salted rim and lime—a perfect way to kick off the festive mood.

Soon, our starters came: homemade Argentine chorizo, nicely spiced and served with a fresh salad, and a plate of Rib Eye “à la minute” with fries—juicy, flavorful, and cooked just right.
To go with our meal, we picked a bottle of Rust en Vrede—a bold, elegant Cabernet Sauvignon from Stellenbosch, South Africa. The 2021 vintage showed deep ruby color and rich flavors of blackcurrant, cedar, and mild spice. Aged in oak, it had the right tannins to match our tenderloin and lamb dishes perfectly. Smooth, well-balanced, and full of character—just like our evening at El Gaucho.

Then came the main event—and we went all out! We ordered the filet mignon, served on El Gaucho’s signature heated tray, likely USDA Prime or Australian beef—juicy, rich, and perfectly cooked. Alongside, we had grilled lamb chops, medium rare, with tender green asparagus.
We paired our mains with rich sides: two mashed potatoes—roasted garlic and classic—a serving of broccoli, and the highlight: creamed spinach with a crispy cheese crust. And the sauce—the jus with the meat—was truly one of the best we’ve tasted!

Just when we thought we were full, the warm, friendly team at El Gaucho surprised us with a slice of cheesecake as a late birthday gift—almost a month late, but even sweeter! Thanks to the whole team for making the night so special.

If we’re in Bangkok next Christmas, there’s no doubt—we’ll return to El Gaucho. It’s our new holiday tradition—double the celebration, double the joy!
