Some hotels just open their doors—others make a grand entrance. The Standard Bangkok Mahanakhon did just that. When we heard the opening date, we marked it in red on our calendar. Once confirmed, we knew something special awaited us. We packed with high hopes—and The Standard surpassed them all. Located in one of Bangkok’s most famous buildings, this hotel is more than a place to stay. It’s a place to experience, remember, and talk about. From a unique after-wedding photo shoot on the SkyWalk to breakfast in the Bangkok sun, this stay was a highlight of our Thailand trip. Welcome to a hotel that changes what ‘standard’ means.

Location & Accessibility: Where in Bangkok is The Standard Bangkok located?

The Standard Bangkok Mahanakhon sits in the Silom business district, inside the King Power Mahanakhon—a striking pixel-like building that stands out in Bangkok’s skyline. The hotel is just a short walk from Chong Nonsi BTS Skytrain station, making it easy to reach lively areas like Siam, Sukhumvit, and the airport.

The neighborhood mixes business energy with rich culture. Nearby are Michelin-star restaurants, Blue Elephant Restaurant and Cooking School, luxury malls, Nobu, Le Du Kaan, and special experiences like massages by the visually impaired at Perception Blind Massage. Whether for work or fun, The Standard places you right in the middle of it all.

Service & Hospitality

The Standard combines relaxed charm with attentive service. The staff didn’t just help—they connected. They remembered our names, congratulated us on our wedding, and quickly pressed a suit for our photo shoot. This kind, thoughtful care made us feel truly valued and welcome.

Architecture & Design

Designed by famous architect Ole Scheeren, the Mahanakhon tower is an architectural icon. Inside, The Standard Bangkok is a visual and sensory delight. Designer Jamie Hayon, The Standard’s “Chef Design” Verena Haller, and their talented team filled this stylish hotel with playful curves, rich textures, bold colors, and surprising art pieces.

The lobby, public areas, and rooms feel like art installations rather than usual hotel decor. Imagine sleek pastels, brass details, velvet furniture, and bold pieces like giant red lips and unique lighting. Even the elevators are worth photographing.

Ambiance & Atmosphere

The Standard is full of youthful, vibrant energy. From the moment you enter, it feels like stepping into a stylish design magazine—bold and cool, but never too much. Everything, from the music to the lighting, is carefully chosen to create a vibe that’s truly The Standard.

Whether you’re enjoying a cocktail in The Parlor or relaxing by the pool, the vibe is effortlessly cool. Being here makes you feel a bit more in the know, part of something fresh and creative.

Room types at The Standard Bangkok

The hotel has 155 rooms in 8 categories, from the Standard King Room (40 m²) to the stunning Bigger Penthouse (144 m²). Each room is uniquely designed with Jamie Hayon’s style—rounded corners, retro-modern furniture, and high-tech features blended into art.

Our Room: Standard King Room

Bedroom

We stayed in the Standard King Room, and stepping inside felt like a dream. The king-size bed was soft and inviting, surrounded by gentle lighting and colorful design touches. We even received a sweet welcome with wedding-themed gifts—so thoughtful.

Living area

The cozy corner couch was great for relaxing with a view. From our window, we saw the famous Robot Building and the SkyWalk above us. A real Bangkok skyline experience right from our room.

Bathroom

A freestanding bathtub, rain shower, and artistic design made the bathroom special. Curved lines, colorful tiles, and luxury amenities made our mornings joyful. Everything felt thoughtfully chosen but casual.

Facilities

Pool

We spent our last hours soaking up the sun—and the view. The outdoor pool is a peaceful spot amid the busy city. With sun loungers, a pool bar, and a Jacuzzi, it was the perfect way to relax before check-out. We especially enjoyed the oversized daybeds, where we could close the curtains and feel like we had our own private cabana.

Gym

Open 24/7, the gym has TechnoGym, CLMBR, and Peloton gear. Whether you want a light stretch or intense workout, it has you covered. Afterward, the steam room with red walls adds a fun Standard touch to your cool down.

Food & Drinks

To enjoy The Standard Bangkok’s food scene, we’ll take you from sky-high fine dining to ground-level treats. Each spot has its own vibe, making one of the city’s most diverse dining options. Next, we’ll cover every restaurant and bar, from the iconic 76th-floor Ojo down to the stylish second-floor Mott 32. Let’s start at the top.

Sky Beach + SkyWalk (76 + 77th floor)

The highest rooftop bar in Bangkok—and maybe the most fun. After dinner at Ojo, we went to Sky Beach for a cocktail and views that stretched far. We even stepped onto the SkyWalk. Tip: visit just before sunset for magical golden hour light.

OJO (76th floor)

This Mexican fine-dining restaurant amazed us. We enjoyed bold, creative, and delicious dishes. The panoramic Bangkok view made it even better. A must-visit when in Bangkok!

The Standard Grill (5th floor)

Our breakfast the morning after our photo shoot was lovely. We sat outside and enjoyed fresh croissants, fruit, and bircher muesli. The order-by-checklist was a fun, interactive touch. We didn’t try lunch or dinner, but that’s a good reason to come back.

The Parlor (4th floor)

Part lounge, part hangout, The Parlor is the hotel’s social hub. Whether you’re grabbing a snack, enjoying a live DJ, or joining a themed night (bingo, anyone?), you’ll feel included. This is where you come to connect.

Tease (4th floor)

Tease is a fun take on traditional high tea, like Alice in Wonderland meets a design showroom. Just before Christmas, we enjoyed a stylish afternoon tea with holiday cheer. We sipped quality teas and savored festive sweet and savory treats—like cinnamon fruit cake and stollen—in a whimsical setting. It was a joyful moment, Ho Ho Ho.

Mott 32 (2nd floor)

On the second floor is Mott 32, an upscale Chinese restaurant specializing in Cantonese food. We didn’t dine here, but its reputation is well known. With dishes like apple wood-roasted Peking duck and Iberico pork char siu, Mott 32 offers refined, traditional flavors in modern Bangkok. A must for fans of Chinese fine dining.
