In 2024, after many visits to Bangkok, we finally stayed by the famous Chao Phraya River—and the Royal Orchid Sheraton Hotel & Towers was the perfect choice for our first riverside stay. Opened in 1983 by Queen Sirikit, this iconic hotel gave us a calm yet lively start to our Thailand trip. We enjoyed great food, were pampered at the spa, and slept like royalty with stunning views. Here’s what you need to know about our experience.

Location & Accessibility: Where in Bangkok is Royal Orchid Sheraton Riverside Hotel Bangkok located?

The Royal Orchid Sheraton sits on the east bank of the Chao Phraya River in Bang Rak. After landing at Suvarnabhumi Airport, we were quickly and comfortably taken to the hotel. The location is great, with ferry piers nearby, a free shuttle boat to ICONSIAM and Sathorn Pier, and easy access to MRT and BTS lines. From here, reaching Bangkok’s main cultural, historical, and shopping spots is easy.

Service & Hospitality

From the moment we entered the lobby, the staff greeted us warmly. Check-in was quick and professional, and a cold welcome drink helped ease our jet lag. Special thanks to Khun Tick for her outstanding service—she made us feel truly valued.

Architecture & Design

Built in a Y-shape to maximize river views, this 28-floor hotel opened in 1983 and was inaugurated by Queen Sirikit. While some areas show its age, the hotel stays elegant, mixing Thai designs like teakwood and traditional touches with modern comfort. You’ll see replicas of sacred Thai symbols, fun Elephant Parade sculptures, and calming interiors.

Ambiance & Atmosphere

The vibe is calm and quietly luxurious. Whether lounging by the riverside pool, enjoying a romantic dinner, or arriving after a long flight, the hotel provides a peaceful break from Bangkok’s busy life while staying right in the city center.

The hotel has 726 rooms and suites, all with wide river views. Options range from Deluxe Rooms to Executive and Presidential Suites. Rooms feature Thai design touches and modern amenities. Club-level rooms include access to the exclusive Sheraton Club Lounge on the 27th floor.

Our Room: Junior River Suite

Living room

The living area had a desk, sofa, coffee table, and LCD TV. A highlight was the huge window with views of ICONSIAM. Our only wish was for a second armchair to enjoy the view together.

Bedroom

Our suite had a Sheraton Signature king bed with a soft mattress and quality linens. We slept better than we had in a long time, with the sparkling river skyline outside. The room also had a dressing area with a walk-in closet, robes, and slippers.

Bathroom

The bathroom was clean and spacious, with both a tub and walk-in rain shower. Amenities were refilled daily, and everything worked well.

Facilities

Garden Pool

The Garden Pool at the Royal Orchid Sheraton, open daily from 7:00 to 19:00, became our private oasis in busy Bangkok. Set in a lush riverside garden shared with the Portuguese Embassy’s real peacocks, it felt like a tropical escape. We enjoyed relaxing under palm trees, swimming in the large pool, and sipping fresh juices from the pool bar. It felt more like a luxury island resort than a city hotel and quickly became our favorite place to relax between Bangkok adventures.

Terrace Pool

For lap swimmers or those seeking quiet time, the Terrace Pool is open until 22:00 and offers stunning river views. It’s a peaceful spot to relax after a workout.

Sheraton Gym

Open 24/7, the gym has TechnoGym equipment, free weights, and yoga mats. It’s near the Terrace Pool and sauna for an easy wellness routine.

Mandara Spa

This top spa, the only Mandara Spa in Thailand, amazed us. We had a Royal Thai Massage with a body scrub, perfectly tailored to us. The space was calm, the therapists excellent, and we left feeling refreshed.

Club Lounge

The Sheraton Club Lounge on the 27th floor offers the hotel’s best views. Guests can enjoy breakfast, afternoon tea, cocktails, and snacks all day in a stylish setting.

Food & Drinks

Feast

Our mornings at Feast were wonderful. We always sat outside by the river, enjoying the breeze and watching boats pass. The breakfast had endless options: I started with spicy Thai noodles from the live station, while Ilonka chose cheeses and cold cuts. We finished with tropical fruits, fresh juice, and perfect cappuccinos. The variety and quality made it one of the best hotel breakfasts in Bangkok.

Giorgio’s

Giorgio’s had high expectations as one of Bangkok’s first Italian hotel restaurants. Sadly, our lunch didn’t impress. The burrata salad and prawns lacked the rich flavors we expect from Italian comfort food. However, the wine was great, and the riverfront view was a plus. Maybe we picked the wrong dishes—next time, we’ll try the pizza or pasta and give Giorgio’s another chance.

Siam Yacht Club

We loved our evenings at the Siam Yacht Club. It’s a place to relax for hours. With the Chao Phraya sparkling beside us and live DJs setting a chill mood, we sipped cocktails as the sky turned pink. We ordered small plates—crispy soft-shell crab, grilled octopus, and spicy mango salad—that went perfectly with the tropical drinks. It’s stylish but casual, and one of the best spots to watch the sunset in Bangkok.

Thara Thong

Dining at Thara Thong was a cultural experience. We took off our shoes, sat on cushions at a traditional Thai table, and enjoyed a graceful show of regional Thai dances.

The food was amazing—avocado and crab larb, pomelo salad served in a carved pomelo, rich massaman curry, and sweet mango sticky rice. Each dish was beautifully presented and full of authentic flavors. Along with the stunning decor and warm service, this dinner was a highlight of our stay.
