KROMO Bangkok, Curio Collection by Hilton: Thailand’s first KROMO, Hilton’s crown jewel lifestyle brand on Sukhumvit Road

The stunning KROMO Bangkok, Curio Collection by Hilton, opened its doors on 24 September 2025 on Sukhumvit Road, and six months later we were there to review this first Curio Collection property by Hilton in Thailand. We spent several nights in a room with an expansive terrace, had breakfast, dined, and enjoyed a number of excellent cocktails at restaurant Colette. If you appreciate design, want to sleep in the heart of Bangkok’s buzz, and love great food and drink, KROMO is exactly where you need to be. Read on to find out why.

Where is KROMO Bangkok located?

KROMO Bangkok is situated on Sukhumvit Road, at the entrance of Soi 29, midway between BTS (skytrain) stations Asok and Phrom Phong. Both are reachable on foot in under ten minutes. An added bonus: at the same interchange as BTS Asok lies MRT station Sukhumvit, making the hotel’s strategic position virtually unbeatable for visitors who want to explore Bangkok by public transport.

Directly adjacent to the hotel is the EM District: EmSphere, EmQuartier and Emporium are reachable in a four-minute walk. Terminal 21 is a ten-minute walk away, and Benjasiri Park, the compact city park, is about five minutes on foot.

The two international airports, BKK (Suvarnabhumi Airport) and DMK (Don Mueang Airport), are approximately thirty minutes away by car, depending on traffic.

Architecture & (interior) design

KROMO Bangkok spans 28 floors and was designed by DIN Studio from Bangkok, also known as Dimensional Interpretation. The name KROMO refers to a property of light: the word is derived from ‘chroma’, the study of colour, and that is precisely the starting point from which DIN Studio shaped the entire hotel. The studio translated nine colourful gemstones into spatial cues that subtly determine how each zone is experienced, without explicitly naming the concept.

We asked DIN Studio to describe in their own words what the design stands for:

“For us, KROMO was an opportunity to look at Bangkok from a different perspective. From the very beginning, we saw the project as something lightly surrealist — a place where reality and imagination overlap, and where guests are invited to discover the city with a curious gaze.

Inspired by the ceremonial name of Bangkok, often translated as the “City of Angels” and the “City of the Nine Gems”, we developed a narrative that unfolds like a contemporary cabinet of curiosities throughout the entire hotel. Rather than treating the nine gemstones as decorative symbols, we imagined them as magical treasures of the angels, hidden on the premises and waiting to be discovered by guests.

Each gemstone transforms into a different spatial experience, artwork or artisanal detail. Diamond appears as a luminous circle hidden in the façade, Garnet comes to life in red flowers concealed in the arrival garden, while Yellow Sapphire and Blue Sapphire transform into Siamese fighting fish within the restaurant and bar Colette. Throughout the hotel, the gemstones reveal themselves in unexpected ways, creating moments of discovery along the guest’s journey.

Our intention was not to tell the story literally, but to create a sense of wonder and curiosity. In many ways, this mirrors Bangkok itself — a city where the unexpected often exists alongside the everyday, and where new discoveries are to be found around every corner.”

The Nine Gemstones and the KROMO Passport

The concept of the nine gemstones is the architectural backbone of the entire hotel, from the ground floor to the façade, and DIN Studio has linked each stone to a specific place and experience. The journey begins on arrival, inspired by garnet, where deep red flowers contrast with lush greenery. Next, moonstone welcomes you in the lobby lift hall on the ground floor, with glowing patterns and lighting design that reflect the phases of the moon (one of my favourite spaces). On the tenth floor, the Sky Garden Lobby unfolds in the spirit of emerald, with sculptural clouds and trees. Nearby, the cat’s eye gives shape to the Vilah Creative & Social Space, through watchful details and playful cat-inspired decorations. On the guest room floors, ruby becomes the sun bird, enveloping corridors and rooms in warmth, with feather-patterned carpeting and motifs that create a sense of calm and privacy.

Back below, at Colette, yellow and blue sapphire come to life through suspended, handcrafted sculptures of Siamese fighting fish and shimmering fish textures. High above, on the 28th floor, zircon crowns the experience at the rooftop pool, where a glowing ceiling reflects over the water and transforms it into a contemplative sanctuary by day and a sparkling stage for Bangkok’s sunsets. Diamond, derived from the Greek adamas meaning ‘unconquerable’, is embedded in the façade. As evening falls, a hidden circle radiates across the exterior. The ninth and final stone is therefore not found in the interior, but on the outside of the building, the most easily overlooked detail of the entire hotel.

The KROMO Passport is the instrument through which you systematically discover all of this. It is a playful journey through the hotel’s ‘cabinet of wonders’: guests collect stamps and uncover hidden gemstones throughout the property, from art installations to gem-inspired spaces. Ask for it at the front desk upon check-in, as it is not automatically handed to every guest. Those who take the time to fully stamp the passport will also discover the less obvious details: the bespoke tiles on the first floor, made from 95% recycled material as a reference to the cyclical nature of the moon, or the augmented reality works by Pichaya Osothcharoenpol that extend the hotel’s visual language into the digital realm. The passport is not just a memento,  it’s an enormously enjoyable way to wander through KROMO and seek out these elements. Have fun!

KROMO’s ambiance and how we experienced it

We found the arrival at KROMO to be understated, and that turned out to be exactly the right tone. A small reception area on the ground floor, a lift hall in a moonscape aesthetic, and then the ascent to the tenth floor where the actual check-in takes place. Bangkok, and Sukhumvit in particular, is loud enough outside. Here, the tone drops, and we noticed that immediately.

We had come from a luxury hotel on the Chao Phraya, where calm was almost a given. The city centre is a different world, and it genuinely took us a moment to settle in. But the subtle hotel scent in the space, the soft music in the corridors, and the relaxed pace of check-in, where everything was explained calmly, meant we were in our room within a quarter of an hour. After that, we enjoyed the peaceful retreat on busy Sukhumvit Road to the fullest.

The artworks at KROMO Bangkok invite a second glance here and there, sometimes even a third. The lenticular artwork in the lift was a particular highlight: depending on the angle from which you look, you see something different every time. Go and see for yourself.

Because we felt so at ease in the hotel, we barely left KROMO. The first evening, a great noodle soup street stall was around the corner. The following morning, before seven o’clock, we grabbed an Anywheel bicycle and cycled around the neighbourhood for an hour or two, a wonderful way to explore the area at your own pace. And one evening out for dinner at Dine in the Dark, a fantastic dining concept we discuss in a separate review. Beyond that: swimming, exercising, relaxing, working, eating, drinking, and more relaxing. Exactly what a good hotel should facilitate.

The Vilah Social Creative Space on the tenth floor deserves a special mention. Inspired by the Thai word for cat, the space is during the day a hybrid of workplace and lounge, with grab-and-go items for those who want to catch their breath or get some work done. In the evenings, the atmosphere shifts towards cocktails and shared tables. We worked there for several hours each day with a fresh mocktail beside the laptop, a very pleasant, open space that feels as though it was made for exactly that purpose.

At the end of the evening, at the rooftop pool on the 28th floor, everything came together. The view, the shifting light at sunset, the relaxed sun loungers by the water, and a moment of complete stillness. Absolutely wonderful.

Who is KROMO, Curio Collection by Hilton for?

KROMO attracts a noticeably diverse crowd, and that is precisely the strength of this hotel brand. Design-conscious travellers who want more than a functional place to sleep will find what they are looking for here. Foodies and cocktail lovers come for Colette. Hilton Honors members use it as a loyal yet surprising address at which to redeem their accumulated points. Thai staycation guests, a growing and discerning category in Thailand, choose KROMO precisely because it feels like a discovery within the metropolis of Bangkok. And then there are the style-savvy social users, for whom the rooftop pool at sunset has already become a regular destination.

What the hotel does cleverly is that it excludes none of these groups, nor does it allow one to crowd out another. The atmosphere is never too cool to be comfortable, and never so formal that it loses its lightness. Couples on a city break feel just as at home as the solo business traveller sitting at the bar with a Negroni in the evening. Those looking for a resort, a spectacular skyline room, or a full breakfast buffet should look elsewhere. But anyone who wants to experience Bangkok through design, art, great food, and a fine drink is in exactly the right place.

Service & Hospitality

From the very moment we stepped inside KROMO, we sensed that service here is not about formal luxury, but about attention to detail. The team is friendly, approachable, and present without being intrusive. Throughout our stay, we were helped with a smile everywhere, and they quickly knew us by name.

It starts at arrival. In addition to an efficient check-in, guests are pointed to charming details in the hotel, such as the fortune slip you can pull from a large cabinet. It may seem like a small gesture, but it fits perfectly with KROMO’s playful character and immediately creates a personal first impression.

That same attention was evident in the room as well. For Ilonka’s birthday, a small cake had been placed ready, along with fresh fruit. No overblown spectacle, but just enough to show that the hotel pays attention to special occasions. It is precisely these kinds of unexpected extras that make a stay feel more personal.

At the pool, the relaxed service was particularly noteworthy. Team member Meena deserves a special mention. She was visibly present throughout the afternoon, friendly and helpful. Around four o’clock, small refreshments were distributed, including fresh pineapple and orange-infused water. On warm days, these are exactly the kind of small touches that are appreciated.

Another modern detail is that you can order directly via WhatsApp at the pool. No searching for staff or waiting for a menu card; a message is all it takes. The system works surprisingly well and fits perfectly with the modern lifestyle concept of the hotel.

Hilton Honors Diamond Members also enjoy additional benefits. Daily between 5 and 6 PM, drinks and canapés are served. Guests can order multiple rounds during that hour, making it feel more like a leisurely aperitif moment than a standard happy hour.

During breakfast, the level of service remained consistently high. The staff worked efficiently and pleasantly, taking their time to explain the à la carte format. Because dishes are served one at a time, a more relaxed restaurant experience is created compared to a traditional buffet. Despite the relatively compact menu, breakfast felt considered and personal as a result. More on that later in this review.

What also stood out is that service at KROMO is not limited to people, but also manifests in practical provisions. Think of the extensive pillow menu, the 24-hour gym, and the ability to request additional amenities via the ‘MAGIC’ service platform. These are small elements that together contribute to a stay that feels just a little more comfortable and enjoyable.

Service at KROMO may not be as formal as in Bangkok’s classic grand luxury hotels, but that is precisely what makes it feel contemporary and accessible. The team understands well what their target audience is looking for: ease, friendliness, personal attention, and a stay in which the small details matter at least as much as the larger amenities.

Room Types at KROMO Bangkok

KROMO Bangkok, Curio Collection by Hilton offers 306 rooms and suites spread across ten categories, designed by LuxeLife Studio. Rooms start at 30 square metres and are furnished in soft tones of white, pale pink and light brown, with ruby red accents. The interior exudes calm without becoming dull. Artist Nakrob Moonmanas is present throughout the entire building: his illustrations appear on bathrobes, mirror panels and on the inside of the minibar.

In addition to our room, KROMO’s terrace rooms, the hotel offers: King Classic Room (30 m²), Twin Classic Room (30 m²), King Courtyard Room (30 m²), King Premium Room (30 m²), King Premier High-Floor Room (30 m²), Corner Junior Suite (42 m²), Junior Suite (42 m²) and the King KROMO Suite (52+ m²). In the suites, the bathroom is larger, with a freestanding bathtub and a separate walk-in shower with a city view.

Our Terrace Room, #1116

We stayed in room 1116 in late April, a terrace room on the eleventh floor. Upon entering, the light immediately strikes you: large windows, soft pastel colours and a layout that feels intuitive. You look straight through to the terrace, where sunlight pours in. That gave the room an airy quality, almost as if you momentarily stepped out of the Sukhumvit bustle.

The room is compact but thoughtfully furnished. A well-functioning steamer, something you by no means always find in comparable hotels. An open hanging system with wooden accents. A large LG flat-screen TV. USB-C beside the bed, a detail you only truly miss when it is not there. And a pillow menu for those who are particular about pillow firmness. The designer bathrobes, created by Thai artist Nakrob Moonmanas, are laid out and available for purchase at THB 2,000. Understandably, the robes are very stylish and cool!

The bathroom is located directly to the right upon entering and is compact but well considered. Lightly polished textured tiles, a small bath with integrated rain shower, wall dispensers with exclusive HARNN products in jasmine and pear fragrance, a vanity table beside the washbasin, and a hair dryer neatly packaged in a Blow Away box. Across the room, behind a sliding door, is a separate toilet area with Japanese toilet and small washbasin. Compact, almost aircraft cabin-like, but for that very reason practical when two people want to get through the morning efficiently. The glass wall lets in light while maintaining privacy. Cleverly resolved.

Then the terrace, we need to be honest. Room 1116 has a remarkably large terrace for a city hotel room of this size. But what is on it disappoints: a small table, one chair, and a half-dead tree. That’s a shame. A terrace of this size deserves at minimum two chairs, some life, and a little character. Our tip to management: this is low-hanging fruit. Invest here and the terrace room immediately becomes much more appealing.

Rooftop Pool

On the 28th floor, the rooftop pool completes the cycle of nine gemstones with zircon, one of the oldest minerals on earth. At sunset, the water surface shifts from deep blue to glowing orange-red, exactly as the stone changes colour depending on the incoming light. Plan your visit between 5 and 7 PM.

The pool is 1.1 metres deep, more than ample for laps or relaxation, and part of the deck extends outward so you can also stay dry during light rain. Sun loungers, daybeds and a number of partially in-water beds offer plenty of options. Orders are placed via WhatsApp, the selection is broader than a standard pool bar, and it works smoothly. The red towels complement the colour scheme of the space, a detail you only notice once you have been sitting there for a while.

Around 4 PM, pineapple bites and orange-infused water appear, unexpected and free of charge. Pool attendant Meena is notably attentive and remembers who is drinking what. Small things, but precisely the sort of things that distinguish a good pool from a great one.

Fitness Centre

The fitness centre on the 28th floor is compact but well equipped: three treadmills, a large combination strength machine, dumbbells, cardio equipment and a stationary bike. Complimentary water, disinfectant wipes, and an apple ready for you upon entry. That last detail is a small touch, but it fits the considered tone of the hotel. Open 24 hours a day, which at a city hotel like this is a deliberate and appreciated choice. Those expecting a resort gym spanning multiple floors with a view will be disappointed. Anyone who wants to train well after a day exploring Bangkok will find everything they need.

Eat & Drink @ KROMO Bangkok

Colette Bistro and Bar

Colette is the culinary heart of KROMO. The all-day bistro is inspired by a free-spirited Françoise who has fallen in love with Thailand, and the name refers to the history of Sukhumvit as Thung Bang Kapi, a fertile lowland once traversed by canals. That context may sound heavier than the space feels, because Colette is above all simply a pleasant place to sit.

The interior combines warm Kapi tones with handcrafted sculptures of Siamese fighting fish by Pin Metal Art and woven installations by Jarupatcha Achavasmit. The result is a space that looks great without appearing to try too hard. Inside, the atmosphere is relaxed, delightfully cool, the music is soft and the staff are friendly and prompt.

The menu reinterprets French classics with local ingredients. Highlights include the Siam Benedict, the Colette French Toast and the classic Steak Frites. On the sweeter side, the Pandan and Coconut Madeleines with bergamot curd are a cross-over that works surprisingly well.

Colette, opening hours

Colette is one of the few hotel restaurants in Bangkok that genuinely thinks about the rhythm of its guests. The kitchen opens at 6:30AM in the morning and does not close until midnight, with a bar running from 5 PM until 1 AM. Breakfast and brunch are available until 2:30 PM, a deliberate choice for those who prefer to discover Bangkok by night and have no desire to rush in the morning. Lunch runs from 11:30 AM  to 2:30 PM, dinner from 6 to 11 PM. These are opening hours that suit a bistro behaving like a neighbourhood café that happens to be inside a hotel: always open, always relaxed and never rushed.

Breakfast @ Colette

KROMO’s breakfast concept requires a slight mental adjustment, and that is precisely the intention. There is no buffet. Colette operates with a layered à la carte approach: first a light plate, then a main dish, with unlimited coffee and tea, and as standard a small fruit course that is somewhat ceremoniously called ‘peeled fruit’. Those accustomed to the endless rows of an Asian hotel buffet will need to shift down a gear here.

But those who do are rewarded. Breakfast feels more like a visit to a stylish French bistro than a hotel restaurant, and that is no coincidence. The low banquettes, the warm materials, the calm atmosphere in which no one seems to be in a hurry: it all fits the character of the hotel. Among the light plates, the Coconut Yoghurt with granola stands out, as does the Matcha Greek Yoghurt and the Thai Honey Oatmeal. Among the main dishes, the Siam Benedict and the Khao Pad Breakfast fare best — the latter being a Thai fried rice with egg, bacon and sausage that hits exactly the right Bangkok note.

Less extensive than a large buffet, certainly. But what it gains in calm, presentation and personal attention more than makes up for it. And in terms of food waste and quality over quantity, many hotels could learn something from this. We were initially sceptical, but have been won over.

Dinner @ Collette

On our final evening, we stayed in the hotel for dinner. Colette has a different energy in the evenings than during the day: the lighting dimmer, the music slightly more present, the bar livelier. Still relaxed, but with more allure. No white tablecloths, no formal service, yet a space that invites you to linger longer than planned.

We took our seats outside on the terrace, and the evening began with fresh bread and creamy salted butter.

We started with two starters. The burrata arrived with roasted peppers, tomato and ‘nduja, the Italian spicy cured sausage that served as a genuine counterpoint to the creamy burrata. Robust, flavourful and well balanced. The feta salad, with large chunks of feta, tomato, watermelon, cucumber and fresh herbs, was the lighter counterpart: fresh, summery and exactly what we wanted on the terrace in Bangkok’s warmth.

For the main courses, Ilonka and I went in opposite directions. I got the Tenderloin au Poivre, an Australian Wagyu tenderloin MBS3 of 180 grams, arrived in a steel pan with a powerful Trang black pepper sauce and crispy straw potatoes. The meat had good quality and was pleasantly tender, the sauce assertive, supremely tasty without veering into overbearing territory. Beside the pan, a side dish: perfectly roasted baby potatoes with rosemary and garlic.

The Truffle Tagliatelle was the revelation of the evening! Ilonka still mentioned it this week: broad ribbons of pasta with butter, parmesan, tartufata and generously shaved black truffle, photographed against the backdrop of Bangkok’s evening lights. Rich, fragrant and made for a long table and a fine glass of wine.

Dessert featured two classics and one surprise. The Valrhona Chocolate Lava, Manjari chocolate with raspberry gel, macadamia ice cream and caramel sauce, was heavenly. The crème brûlée, with vanilla custard, caramelised brûléed sugar topping and fresh red berries, was flawless in both texture and flavour. Perhaps a little conventional, but we were simply in the mood for it. And then, as a closing we had not seen coming: following the birthday cake in our terrace room, yet another birthday cake, elegantly decorated with whipped cream and purple flowers, with ‘Happy Birthstay’ written on the board. A play on words that perfectly suits a hotel that loves to give its guests a reason to smile.

Cocktails @ Colette

The first two cocktails came before dinner, a fine opening on the terrace in the heart of Bangkok. Colette’s cocktail menu is built around the world’s cities that fit the travel story of the fictional Colette: each cocktail represents a fashion capital, from Milan to Bangkok. Every drink has a mood, a character and a brief description that almost makes you forget you simply want to order something.

Ilonka chose Le Parisienne Chic. Paris, of course, in a French-oriented restaurant. Hennessy VS, Lillet Rosé, fat-washed balsamic, croissant, raspberry lemon cordial and pét-nat. The menu says: “a day in a Parisian café, a vintage tweed blazer, a glass of natural wine.” And so it tastes: elegant, lightly effervescent, refined rather than daring. A different style from the Negroni, but one that suited the evening.

I ordered La Moda Negroni. Milan, not surprising given my Italian background and love of the Negroni. This remix contained Beefeater London Dry, Ratafia Rossi, sherry blend, tamarind cordial, fig leaf, orange bitters, rooibos vanilla and a light Earl Grey foam. The menu describes it as “front-row at Milan Fashion Week in a structured blazer.” The foam rests like a cloud over a deep red base, the glass is compact, the flavour complex. Sweet, bitter, herbal and somewhere in between the tamarind that gives the whole thing an unexpected Thai twist. This is the cocktail you order, drink, and then without thinking about ordering again.

After the starters, we ordered two more cocktails. I chose the Harajuku Blossom. Tokyo this time: roasted coconut-infused Johnnie Walker Black Label, Cherry Heering, Amontillado sherry, rice syrup, yuzu and shiso bitters. The menu describes it as “strutting beneath neon glow, where avant-garde silhouettes spark Tokyo’s electric pulse.” In the glass: a deep amber-coloured drink, yellow fruit as garnish and a large ice block. The flavour is softer than the Negroni, more rounded, with the toasted coconut enveloping the whisky and the yuzu adding a light, fresh undertone. Stylish and less predictable than it looks.

Ilonka took The Silk Route, the Bangkok cocktail from the menu. Havana 3 and Havana 7 rum, mango sticky rice cordial, lime, lemongrass, Kao Doi tea from ARAKSA and a vegan foamer. The menu says: “silk over golden skin, every turn through Bangkok’s markets a burst of colour, scent and sound.” The glass arrives as a golden coupe with a white foam and a subtly printed motif on top. The flavour is precisely what Bangkok is: warm, fragrant, a little chaotic and unmistakably local. Of the four cocktails we ordered, this was the most distinctly Thai, and justifiably the most affordable of the four.

After dinner we ordered two more, this time two highball-style cocktails to share and close the evening. La Flamenca for Madrid: prickly cactus fig-infused Altos Plata tequila, mango cordial, agave, clarified lime, hinoki bitters, tajín and soda. The glass arrives as a frosted highball with a tajín rim and a small piece of cactus fig as garnish, exactly as fiery as the name promises. Fruity, lightly spicy, with the tequila coming through without dominating. The Paloma was the classic counterpart: Olmeca Altos Plata, pink grapefruit soda, lime and salt. Clear, fresh and no-nonsense. Exactly the kind of drink with which you comfortably close a long dinner.

As for the cocktail menu as a whole: four signature cocktails and two classics spread across two evenings, and not a single disappointment. That says enough.

Our Conclusion

KROMO Bangkok is the rare hotel that delivers on its conceptual promise. The City of the Nine Gems is not merely a marketing claim but the structural backbone of every design decision in the building, from the arrival garden on the ground floor to the zircon-coloured water on the 28th floor. DIN Studio and the Thai artists involved have created a hotel that functions equally well as a cultural institution and as a place of accommodation.

We came for a few nights and barely left the hotel. Not because Bangkok did not call to us, but because KROMO kept us in. The location on Sukhumvit Soi 29 is near perfect, the service is remarkably personal in tone for a hotel not yet a year old, and Colette is the kind of restaurant where you stay longer than planned. That is perhaps the greatest compliment you can pay a hotel.

We mention the caveats honestly: the terrace of the terrace room deserves a serious upgrade, the breakfast concept requires some adjustment, and Hilton Diamond members would do well to temper their expectations regarding upgrades. But these are imperfections that come with an opening phase, and the hotel acknowledges them visibly.

KROMO is the definitive answer to the question of which new hotel is worth choosing Sukhumvit for a night or longer. A place that tells Bangkok without shouting, and that invites its guests to discover for themselves.
