Fantastic luxury rooms and suites with skyline views above Sukhumvit

Fi-nal-ly, it was time — something we had been looking forward to for months! Our stay at the hotel with what we consider the coolest pool in Bangkok: the infinity rooftop pool on top of 137 Pillars Suites & Residences!!! What began in Chiang Mai with a historic teak house resting on 137 pillars grew into a hotel concept where heritage, design and Thai hospitality come together. The original house, once part of the 19th-century teak industry, was carefully restored and remains the heart of the brand to this day.

That same soul is present in Bangkok. Here, the concept has been translated into a stylish property in the heart of the city, where traditional influences and modern design reinforce each other. Everything revolves around experience: from the materials and architecture to the way you are welcomed. Not standard luxury, but a place with character — where history, culture and comfort converge.

Below, we share our personal experience. From the incredible breakfast to cocktails at Nimitr, the hotel’s sky bar. 137 Pillars was everything we had expected — and more!

Where in Bangkok is 137 Pillars Suites & Residences located?

137 Pillars Suites & Residences is located in the stylish Phrom Phong neighbourhood of Bangkok, known for its fantastic shopping destinations. The hotel offers a complimentary shuttle service to and from BTS Phrom Phong station (Sukhumvit line), from where you can walk straight to two luxury shopping malls: EmQuartier and Emporium. The modern EmSphere mall and the peaceful Benjasiri Park are also easily reachable from here.

Prefer to walk? From the BTS station, it’s just a fifteen-minute stroll to the hotel. Bangkok’s two airports — Suvarnabhumi (BKK) and Don Mueang (DMK) — are approximately 45 minutes away by car.

Architecture & (interior) design

Designed by Palmer & Turner, the 33-storey tower rises high above Sukhumvit Soi 39. The interiors were carefully curated by P49 Design, while the surrounding gardens were conceived by Wabi Sabi Studio.

From the moment you step into the lobby, the elegant atmosphere is immediately felt. Deep blue sofas rest on gleaming marble floors, and striking artworks draw the eye. A true showstopper is the impressive triptych by Panya Vijinthanasarn, one of Thailand’s leading artists, depicting Buddhist cosmology. The geometric floor patterns are equally mesmerising.

Inside the suites, calm and serenity prevail. Natural light pours through floor-to-ceiling windows. High ceilings and expansive marble bathrooms with round freestanding bathtubs create a sense of refined luxury. The suites — named after historic Thai kingdoms including Sukhothai, Ayutthaya, Thonburi and Rattanakosin — vary in size, but all offer generous space and an intimate stillness.

We stayed in the Ayutthaya Suite, a beautiful luxury apartment with its own kitchen, bathroom, living room and bedroom. The walls were clad in dark grey textured wallpaper and warm wood panels. The signature zigzag floor pattern connected the spaces beautifully. Copper accents, a vibrant floral painting above the bed and a horse painting above the living room sofa gave the suite an extra layer of character.

The bathroom was fully clad in grey-white marble from floor to ceiling, with a freestanding oval bath as its elegant centrepiece. On the balcony, comfortable rattan chairs and a ceiling fan awaited — and from here, we took in a panoramic view over Bangkok.

Our suite also gave us exclusive access to one of Thailand’s most iconic pool experiences: a 360-degree infinity pool surrounded by two cabanas and two jacuzzis, with lush terraces, more cabanas and sun loungers beyond, WOW!!!

It’s atmosphere and guests

The atmosphere at the hotel is calm and composed. During the day, there was a quiet bustle: breakfast downstairs was a bit livelier, but in our exclusive lounge — for the lucky ones — we enjoyed the same meal with skyline views and exceptional food.

The gym was pleasantly uncrowded, even though residents from the residences wing share it. The main pool, accessible to everyone including day pass visitors, was occasionally a little busy. Fortunately, we could regularly retreat to our “private terrace” on the rooftop: a blue-lit pool high above Bangkok, almost always entirely ours.

In the evenings, the energy shifted towards a livelier gathering at Nimitr, where we even ran into old acquaintances from our neighbourhood in Phra Khanong. And because the private rooftop infinity pool was accessible to us 24 hours a day, the night took on something surreal — so high above the city, in silence above the noise.

The crowd — from Korea, Germany, America and beyond — was diverse but always discreet. Couples like us form the core, including a pair of honeymooners we encountered along the way. The dual concept of suites and residences also attracts business travellers and long-stay guests who want luxury combined with the freedom of their own apartment. Digital nomads and expats feel right at home in the spacious residences, complete with fully equipped kitchens and washing machines.

Hospitality with a capital H!

We want to give a special mention to Khun Petch — largely thanks to him, and certainly thanks to the rest of the outstanding team, our stay was truly exceptional. He was available day and night and helped us when, for example, we needed to travel to Patong in Chinatown under time pressure, as well as with various other matters where we needed a little support.

The team in the exclusive dining lounge reserved for suite guests was equally wonderful. The service at this property is outstanding. Their relaxed, warm yet professional attitude is something many hospitality professionals could learn from.

Rooms and suites at 137 Pillars Bangkok

137 Pillars Bangkok has 34 suites on its upper floors, named after the great royal eras of Thai history. From the intimate Sukhothai Suite at 70 m² to the two-bedroom Rattanakosin Suite at 127 m². All suites share the same DNA: high ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows with skyline views, a marble bathroom with a round freestanding bath, butler service and a balcony with daybed and rocking chair.

The 179 serviced residences on the lower floors are ideal for longer stays but can also be booked for shorter visits. They offer a full kitchen and washing machine, but do not include access to the exclusive rooftop pool, which is strictly reserved for suite guests.

Our Suite — The Ayutthaya Suite, 95 m²

Our one-bedroom suite with separate living room, pantry, walk-in wardrobe, bathroom and terrace had everything we could have wished for when we stepped inside in February 2026.

Living area

The moment we opened the suite door, we walked straight into the living room. The incredibly cool herringbone carpet pattern caught our eye immediately. A round dining table with a curved bench seat — our workspace, as it turned out — a generous sofa positioned opposite a large flat-screen TV with Bose sound system, and the glass sliding doors opening onto the spacious balcony with panoramic Bangkok skyline views. We spotted those the moment we walked through.

Every evening when we arrived “home,” the balcony felt like our own little sanctuary — spacious and serene. With a daybed and a ceiling fan for the tropical heat, it invited us to unwind and replay the day while stretched out beneath the skyline. During the day, the view over Bangkok’s green and urban patchwork was simply breathtaking.

Between the bedroom and living room sits a walk-in wardrobe for luggage and clothing.

Seperate bedroom

The bedroom is cleverly laid out, with a generous king-size bed dressed in crisp white Egyptian cotton linen. The herringbone carpet continues from the living room, giving the suite a unified feel. The floor-to-ceiling window floods the room with natural light. And the view? We often lay in bed just staring outside — we never once turned on the television. That says it all, doesn’t it?

Luxurious bathroom

A sliding door connects the bathroom to the bedroom, giving the suite a fluid, residential quality. The bathroom was, quite simply, spectacular. The floor, walls and vanity were all clad in grey-white veined marble — a genuine masterpiece. The centrepiece is the freestanding oval bath in matte white, with a built-in television on the wall — which we never switched on. The double vanity with its large mirror and integrated screens lends the space a spa-like character.

Pantry

Last but not least: the charming, compact kitchenette that was fully stocked with everything you could need. The softly lit shelves held wine glasses, highball glasses and a selection of spirits — even a copper cocktail set. Beneath them, a mini fridge and a wine cooler. A kettle and quality coffee machine were naturally present too. The complimentary snacks and soft drinks were a lovely bonus for our beloved balcony. Thank you, 137 Pillars!

Facilities

Infinity Pool on Level 27

On the 27th floor you’ll find a stunning infinity pool with an adjacent jacuzzi, accessible to both suite and residence guests. Even if you’re not staying at the hotel, you can purchase a day pass to cool off during your Bangkok visit. The pool has comfortable cabana-style sun loungers and sits right next to Nimitr, 137 Pillars Bangkok’s rooftop bar — the perfect spot to end your swim with a few sundowners and perhaps even dinner.

Nitra Serenity Centre

The Nitra Serenity Centre focuses on wellness and massage. Treatments range from classic massages to signature experiences such as the herbal compress with Moringa oil massage.

Fitness and more

The fitness, yoga and meditation rooms are open 24 hours a day. We found the equipment more than sufficient for both cardio and strength training.

On the 6th floor, you’ll find a mini golf driving range with a putting green set in a relaxed garden atmosphere, plus a golf simulator.

Louie Tour

We unfortunately didn’t get around to this tour ourselves — perhaps next time we visit this incredible Bangkok hotel. The Louie Tour is a personalised six-hour tour of Bangkok, where guests choose three destinations from categories including Art & Culture, Shopping, Cuisine & Café and Wellness. Think the Grand Palace or Wat Arun, or Michelin-starred restaurants like INDDEE, Le Du or Potong. The tour is guided by a personal Louie Expert and travels in the hotel’s iconic purple London cab.

Exclusive Rooftop Infinity Pool

And finally, our absolute favourite facility: the Rooftop Infinity Pool. This 18-metre saltwater pool on the 35th floor is the highest infinity pool in Bangkok, offering a unique 360-degree panoramic view of the city. Exclusively available to suite guests, it is open 24 hours a day.

We were lucky enough to have a suite, and it gave us an unforgettable experience. Sipping a beer in the jacuzzi right next to the pool, high above Bangkok? That’s something you never forget.

Eating and Drinking at 137 Pillars Suites & Residences in Bangkok

Bangkok Trading Post

We paid a brief visit to the all-day dining restaurant next to the lobby. Breakfast is served here, and after that it’s open throughout the day. The menu leans international: creative Western classics, freshly baked bread, specialty coffee and cocktails. From early morning to late evening, you’ll find a varied offering — from pastas and pizzas to local favourites like Pad Krapow and Pad Thai. Bangkok Trading Post also has a lovely garden terrace.

Jack Bain’s Bar

Tucked away on the 28th floor, Jack Bain’s Bar is one we admittedly never set foot in. We know the cocktail menu combines classics with Thai-British creations, and next time we stay at 137 Pillars Suites & Residences Bangkok, we’re absolutely going in for a few cocktails!

Nimitr

The culinary heart of the hotel is Nimitr, the flagship restaurant on the 27th floor, where we did enjoy some excellent cocktails. The menu features regional Thai dishes ranging from refined small bites to flavourful curries, all served with outstanding attention to detail.

As suite guests, we received complimentary cocktails between 18:00 and 19:00 — perfect timing to catch the sunset, and yet another reason to book a suite. We also enjoyed a set menu during our visit to this fantastic rooftop bar.

Baan Borneo Club

The exclusive lounge for suite guests on the 26th floor was for us far more than a breakfast spot — it was a daily highlight we genuinely looked forward to. The views were stunning, the service superb and the food outstanding.

Breakfast at the Baan Borneo Club is served until 5:00 PM. We had to make full use of that. After a workout, we’d regularly sit down for an unhurried brunch — calm, personal and far removed from the bustle downstairs. Because downstairs, at the Bangkok Trading Post, breakfast is certainly good. But the Baan Borneo Club is in a different league entirely. One of the best breakfast experiences we’ve ever had in Thailand — refined, attentive and without a hint of rush. For this experience alone: book a suite.

Our conclusion

137 Pillars Suites & Residences Bangkok was everything we had hoped for — and more. From the moment we arrived to the moment we reluctantly left, this hotel felt like a very special home high above the city.

The combination of thoughtful design, personal service and that unrivalled rooftop infinity pool made this stay truly unique in Bangkok. What stayed with us most is the way everything comes together: the refined brunch at the Baan Borneo Club, the cocktails at sunset in Nimitr, the jacuzzi and the incredible pool high above the city — and the exceptional team behind it all. These are experiences we have rarely found at this level anywhere else in Bangkok.

The team at 137 Pillars doesn’t aim for spectacle. They focus on calm, nuance and character — and they achieve it brilliantly. For anyone who wants to truly experience Bangkok while also having a place to breathe, this is the spot. And our advice? Book a suite. Not just for the luxury, but for access to a world most guests never see. Perhaps the most beautiful pool in Bangkok. Certainly the highest. And quite possibly entirely yours.

Good tips and fun/interesting facts about the hotel

• Suite guests have 24-hour access to the rooftop infinity pool and receive a complimentary sundowner every day between 6:00 and 7:00 PM — either at the Bangkok Trading Post on the ground floor or at the Pool Bar on the 27th floor.

• Breakfast at the Baan Borneo Club is served from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM — external guests are also welcome. Book ahead though, as seating is limited.
• The rooftop pool is open 24 hours a day. A late-night visit around 2:00 AM offers a surreal experience: alone above the sleeping city, without the daytime bustle.
• The hotel has its own rooftop herb garden growing lemongrass, pumpkin, and edible flowers — everything goes straight to the Nimitr kitchen. The house tea is sourced from sustainable forests in northern Thailand.
• The hotel uses wooden keycards, biodegradable corn starch amenities, and refillable vegan bath products as part of a serious sustainability programme.
• The hotel offers a “picnic-à-porter” service: butler-prepared picnic meals to take out into the city — ideal for a morning in Benjakitti Park or Benjasiri Park, both within walking distance.

• The name 137 Pillars refers to the legacy of Louis Leonowens — son of the famous Anna Leonowens from The King and I — who in 1886 established the Chiang Mai headquarters of the Borneo Trading Company. That historic teak building is the original 137 Pillars House.
