Wat Yai Chai Mongkol, Ayutthaya
Wat Yai Chai Mongkol is one of Ayutthaya’s most revered temples, known for its massive chedi and rows of restored Buddha statues draped in saffron robes. It was built in 1357 for meditation by monks returning from Sri Lanka. The towering chedi was added in 1592 by King Naresuan to commemorate his victory over the Burmese. Visitors can climb the chedi for views of the temple grounds. The temple remains active today, and the reclining Buddha near the entrance is also a popular highlight. It’s located slightly outside the main historical park but well worth the trip.
