Wat Lokayasutharam, Ayutthaya: Reclining Buddha
This temple is home to the famous Reclining Buddha of Ayutthaya, known as Phra Noon — an enormous 37-meter-long statue lying peacefully in the open air. Although the temple itself is mostly in ruins, the image of the reclining Buddha, draped in a vibrant saffron robe, is incredibly photogenic and spiritually moving. It’s a popular stop for both tourists and Thai Buddhists, who leave offerings and incense near the statue. Wat Lokayasutharam is located west of the Royal Palace and near Wat Worachet, making it an easy addition to any walking or cycling tour.
