We had only 24 hours in Ayutthaya, but we made them count by staying at one of the city’s most visually stunning boutique hotels: Baan Pomphet. With its iconic orange brick architecture, riverside location, and unforgettable food, this charming stay quickly became one of our favorite hotel experiences in Thailand. It’s no surprise that this design-forward hotel has earned a reputation as one of the best places to stay in Ayutthaya.

Baan Pomphet is located on the banks of the Chao Phraya River, adjacent to the centuries-old Pom Phet Fortress. It’s about a 10-minute tuk-tuk or scooter ride from the UNESCO-listed temple ruins of the Old City. The hotel’s serene setting—just outside the city center—offers tranquility while keeping all major attractions within easy reach. From Bangkok, Ayutthaya is only a 90-minute drive, making it perfect for an overnight escape.

Service & Hospitality

From the moment we arrived, the hospitality was warm and genuine. Although we arrived early, our luggage was safely stored while we enjoyed a welcome drink on the riverside terrace. Every staff member we encountered was attentive and kind. Special thanks to Khun Saralee, the owner, for her warm welcome. This level of service made us feel right at home.

Atmosphere & Design

Baan Pomphet is a design lover’s dream. The hotel, designed by Thai firm Onion, is a modern masterpiece that uses traditional elements like handmade bricks, wood, iron, and ceramic tiles. The tones of orange, green (cha-plu leaf), and yellow (jackfruit) give each space its own identity while staying rooted in Thai heritage. From the preserved Bodhi tree in the courtyard to the thoughtful contrast between simplicity and complexity in the layout, every corner is a tribute to craftsmanship and local culture.

Our room, the Deluxe River View

Our Deluxe River View room felt like a serene cocoon of comfort and design. We loved the contrast between the deep blue bathroom tiles and the warm tones of wood and brick throughout the space. The pod-style bed was incredibly cozy, and the ceiling fan in our front lounge area added a relaxing breeze while we enjoyed the garden and pool views.

At the back, the private terrace with an outdoor Thai shower was a lovely touch—perfect for rinsing off after a hot day exploring Ayutthaya. Waking up to the view of the Chao Phraya River and the peaceful rustle of the Bodhi tree was the kind of moment that stays with you.

Facilities & Amenities

The boutique hotel features a small riverside pool, perfect for a refreshing dip. A rooftop terrace offers elevated views of the river, though it was closed during our visit. The hotel also offers private boat tours, bike and scooter rentals, and tuk-tuk services for exploring Ayutthaya. The peaceful riverside terrace, especially in the evening, is one of the hotel’s best spots to unwind.

The restaurant

The Baan Pomphet restaurant is not only popular with hotel guests but also with locals and Thai tourists. Its menu focuses on high-quality Thai cuisine with a focus on local and seasonal ingredients. Many dishes are designed for sharing. We dined on the restaurant’s riverside terrace, enjoying a truly special meal. Even if you’re not staying here, make sure to book a table at the restaurant in advance—especially if you want one by the water.
